I figure this question comes up in the minds of many employees, now that nothing is certain and now that chances are that many of us will be hitting the job market. They say the most important thing is to know how to sell yourself. Do any of the... — read more

Wait for the severance

Yes, a whole bunch of people will be sacked, we all know that by now, but I think those who're telling everybody to leave right now are making a mistake. Why leave and not collect severance? If you've been here for a year or two, that's one thing... — read more

Anxiety and stress

Maybe this is all too stressful for me because I’ve never been through this before. However, most of the colleagues I work with have previous experience already, and some have even gone through acquisitions in other companies several times, but... — read more

Does anyone know when the layoffs might possibly start: right after the acquisition or perhaps even a little earlier?

Advice to VMWare Employees

As an employee who been part of many Broadcom/CA style buy outs I would like to give some advice to the employees of VMware on how to handle the buyout. Don’t believe the “it will be ok” BS. Update resume, references prepare for mass layoffs... — read more

I wish some of you would stop telling us to relax

This is a big deal. For the majority of us this could bring life-altering changes. It's normal to be nervous about it and it's normal to want to know more even if realistically we're aware that we won't have an answer for months. Enjoy your life in... — read more

Advice to VMWare GMs

As an employee who been part of many Broadcom/CA style buy outs I would like to give some advice to the GMs of VMware on how to handle the buyout. DO NOT PRE-layoff unless required. You think you will look better to Broadcom or show you can... — read more

Should the US government regulate this behavior?

Should a company like Broadcom who pays approx 21% corporate tax rate (while you pay more like 35-45%) be allowed to continue buying companies and laying off thousands of employees? It is also my understanding that a lot of these companies hide from... — read more

How many to be laid off day 1?

It is clear that Broadcom will cut 70% of VMware staff. But that is the goal in 3 years. How many do you think will be cut on the day 1? My guess is 25%.. that is 9k employees!! HR, GA, corporate marketing, some sales, some marketing and product... — read more

Huge cuts are unavoidable

VMware management is going to say whatever they need to say to try and keep employees calm and not bolt for the door. Execs will make millions in change in control. The most important question is this: Broadcom has said they want to take VMware from... — read more

We're going to see the worst of it

Can we assume that the U.S. positions are going to be hit much harder than the rest? Europe has better employment laws that protect their employees and most of the employees at South America and Asia locations are cheaper than us. That leaves us as... — read more

Everyone just needs to relax.

Paragraph from one of the analysts…

“There is one revealing piece in Broadcom's filings: within 3 years after closing, Broadcom expects VMware adjusted EBITDA to jump from $4.7B in FY 22 (ended in January) to $8.5B. One cannot hope to reach it without massive cost-cutting, not unlike... — read more

Please read statements by Krause in this article

So tired with all this

I’m exhausted with all the chat here. It’s so depressing. I just hope everything starts to settle down as we could be in limbo for a long time. We should work to get through it as best we can.

Toxic next few months

I absolutely agree with someone who mentioned that the environment will become more toxic in the coming months because of those who will try to keep their job in every way, I hope I'm wrong though... The atmosphere already feels different.

Individual contributor bonus

As our "individual-contributor" bonus is paid in April, I guess that if we will be lay off before this month we will not receive anything right?

Recently hired - first to go?

I recently came to VMW. Colleagues advise me to start looking for a new job right away because in their opinion it could happen that last hired is first to get laid off. Is that really so, or is the role of the employee more important? Has... — read more

Continuing the WFH debate

Continuing the WFH debate... Just do the math, guys. If you reduce VMware to only 30% of current employees, which will not happen overnight, does Broadcom have office space readily available to sit 12,000 heads under one roof? I doubt Broadcom, or... — read more

Who wants to stay after the acquisition?

Everyone here is panicking because of the uncertainty of what will happen next and how they will be affected. This is understandable, especially given Broadcom's reputation when it comes to acquisitions. When I read some of these threads, it seems... — read more

For those that are let go and have less than a year with VMW can we expect 2 months + 1 week which I believe is the current standard severance in place.

The culture at Broadcom is a culture of fear

First off, the culture at Broadcom is a culture of fear. Fear of when you will be laid off, fear of when the next shoe will drop. The employees have no time to gossip or be political, so while that may seem bad, you don’t have to deal with drama. I... — read more

Broadcom or VMware severance
