RIP VBS Irving

So just a little update from our oh-so-generous employer: we still have jobs, how lucky we are, but of course it comes with a lovely caveat. We either uproot our entire lives and relocate, or for some of us, we’re stuck here with no options due to legal or personal reasons. And they gave us the super generous advice that we can apply to new positions here, except surprise, there aren’t any that most of us qualify for. So we just get to work for two more months, no big deal, and then we get a whopping two months of garden leave, which by the way is a huge downgrade from the four months they gave people last time. And we only have 10 days to decide: apply, relocate, or do nothing. If I don’t find something in these four months, well, I have no choice but to take the severance and say goodbye. What a dream, right?

And even if I do relocate, what makes me trust that I won’t just get laid off again two months after I completely uproot my life?

Oh, and on top of that, they still expect us to perform as usual over the next two months, making sure we hit all our targets and keep up our usual standards. What makes them think that’s even realistic after all this?

Whoa ... My RSUs were canceled after the garden leave ended

RIF employee here and my separation agreement contradicts what SNPS had Etrade do with all non-vested RSUs.

All of my 2023 and 2024 RSUs that were awarded during that period should have been fully vested right away. The 2025 RSUs should be fully vested all the ones that would have vested in the next 12 months from the terminate date.

They canceled all of them.

Calling SNPS stock services right now so everyone affected by the RIF should check their etrade account.

Background verification on last date of employment

What is the last date HR provide? Last working day or last day of employment (post garden leave). If someone couldn't convey that their layoff news while interview process (because of the lengthy process, also sometimes it started long ago before layoff, also was not asked initially) will the new hire get to know about the layoff (assumingit would have negative impact and would be seen as hiding)?

Severance in the US

Severance packages in the US have been consistent over the years: 2-4 weeks plus 1 week for every year of service, capped at 26 weeks. Plus one free month of cobra.

Garden leave was a new benefit in 2025, which kept the dejobbed on payroll and benefits for a few weeks. No idea if that was a one off or if it will become standard.

Putting this up, useful info. Found here: @bj+1kkhyebqg

2026 final layoff numbers…..

Lots of post about not knowing the total layoff numbers for 2026. A few things:

  • There is no final number YET. Layoffs are still happening at least through the end of this month. Maybe into February.

  • Those impacted are technically are garden leave until April 2nd and are still on the payroll.

  • April 2nd, is when the RIF numbers will be in warn and when the media will start to report on it. That’s when you will get the final number of people let go.

No conspiracy or withholding information. That’s how the process works.

10k RIF is the rumor, we will see if it’s true.

Not much empathy for tenured who get laid off

I’m probably just a complete d-mb a$$ but I dont feel much empathy for laid off employees who have tenure assuming the severance packages match what is on magenta pulse.

  • 2+ months garden leave
  • 2 weeks additional severance per year of service on top of garden leave (max of 26 weeks total)
  • Additional lump sum payment for those 20+ year lifers who already should have ample savings
  • 100% bonus payout regardless of prior year performance
  • Next stock vesting for ICs (even more vesting for Director +)

This means those with 8+ years of tenure are getting 6 months of severance pay plus their stock and 100% bonus? This is much better than most Fortune 500 companies right? I get that the job market su-ks but if you have been at all prudent with your finances and have an emergency fund on top of severance then this could end up being a paid vacation for many. This doesn’t even consider unemployment benefits.

I do have empathy for young people or people with kids who are trying to make it in this crazy high cost of living world. But, tenured Gen X and boomers… no empathy for you whatsoever. If you havnt been able to save and invest for the past 25-35 years then I’m sorry for whatever circumstances led to this. Hopefully this generous severance package is enough to bridge you until retirement or social security kicks in

Layoffs in ecosystem, sales? Vegas?

I hear about massive layoffs in ecosystem and also some in sales here in the EU. How do others see it? What is the strategy here? Do not suppose Andy is going to explain much next week in Vegas. He-l we will see how the event will look like, my ecosystem coleagues went got garden leave and had to cancel their flights. They just found out this week.

If I quit and go to a non- direct competitor, will I still be put on garden leave?

The culture and new management in this company have become so toxic that I cannot stand it anymore, and I am planning my exit. I know some employees have left to non-competitors and they were still put on garden leave, but does that happen to everyone? Have there been situations where the whole notice period needs to be served?
