I hope all the recent developments make you think about yourself more

Bottom line - don't get stuck here. We've seen they can spring layoffs on us without warning. If that wasn't a wake-up call to stop being complacent, I don't know what is. We all tend to seek false security and get set in our ways. You're not doing yourself any favors. Better to be prepared with other options lined up than to be caught off guard.

If business has been doing well, that still doesn't mean there won't be cuts

There's no limit to greed. We get the short end of the stick whether the business is booming or busting. Don't ever relax, especially in retail. Better to always be on the lookout for other options. You never know - you may come across a better opportunity. Yes, even in this bad economy. There's life after Macy's.

Leaving Comcast is a good thing...

I went thru several layoffs with Comcast and each time I scrambled to "get back in". In hindsight, I should have let go and moved on much sooner. It's just a bad relationship, let it go, your new work family is waiting for you! I know for some of us older folks it can be difficult to recover, but trust me, you will. You might have to do something different, you might make less, but you will be in a better place. You should be proud of the work you did for them, but it's time to be open to what's next for you.

Starting at a new company has made me wish I left Cargill earlier

A post to encourage those who have been impacted and are worried about what is next. It really does sadden me that the company which I used to take so much pride in working for has lost so much of what led to its success. It was a great place to have a career. In its current form I wouldn't advise anyone I know to work for Cargill. Best of luck to those still in the job hunt. Better days will be ahead once you are beyond Brian Sikes and the rest of the clueless Cargill "leadership" team.

Cargill has really lost it's long term vision.

What’s the latest?

A lot seems to be happening, but there’s still no clear picture of how bad it’s going to get or who’s most at risk. HP feels completely directionless, and while I wouldn’t mind leaving or even being let go, the job market, especially for us, is awful right now. So yeah, I’m worried. The money has to come from somewhere.

Outsider point of view

This company does not demonstrate genuine support for its onshore employees. Although they offer retention bonuses to individuals acquired from other organizations it is not fairly across the board, they simultaneously create conditions that make it extremely difficult for employees to fulfill their contractual obligations eliminating their retention bonuses obligations. The strict “no bench time” policy, combined with the expectation of securing billable hours immediately, before assignment ends results in employees facing the threat of termination through no fault of their own. Employees submit multiple internal applications submitted with large amount of rejections.

I strongly advise caution when considering employment at Deloitte. The constant pressure to find the next billable assignment creates an environment of ongoing stress and instability. It is counterproductive for the company to acquire skilled, intelligent employees only to undermine their tenure and contributions. From the outside looking in, Deloitte’s constant rotation of employees can make it seem as though they are trying to hide their inability to properly support projects

Additionally, there are concerns regarding the company’s independence, as employees are often pushed toward using preferred partner vendors from which the company appears to financially gain. Dictating what companies you can do business with.

A little fear

The truth is that a little fear is good (for us that have been so comfortable with Target) it’s helping us do something we might have not thought about doing. Looking outside of Target. This is not the Target I know anymore. For those of us in Minnesota, things will be tough. Stay strong, update your resumes and start looking, even if you make it out.

One should neither consider their job safe nor tie their career to Nike

The days when that made any sense are long gone. Layoffs keep happening, smaller and more targeted, which means it can hit anyone at any time. The chances of Nike returning to its mythical glory, when it was fun to work here and the company was vibrant, flexible, and creative, are very slim. It’s better to stay alert and keep your eyes always open for other opportunities.

With the Government shut down, not good to be on the Bench right now. If you did not receive layoff notice this week, most likely will next week

When internal jobs are open to fill, most, if not all Booz Allen managers do not give priority to employees facing layoffs. I don't ever recall hearing the Booz Allen Hamilton CEO, or the many Vice Presidents, Principles or Directors come out and state that Booz Allen employees facing layoffs will be given first priority in filling internal jobs.

In fact, the last three external hires who onboarded in my group, came in with weak skills overall. Seems like Booz Allen internal candidates facing layoffs would have been a better bet.

If you are employee on the bench, unable to find new contracts to support within 2 days after being placed on bench or concerned contract, you are supporting is going to face cancellation or funding reduction. Don't delay in looking outside Booz Allen for new job. Don't forget to mark your LinkedIn profile as available or looking. Then hope for the best. If offered job with another company, leave Booz Allen Hamilton in rear view mirror and never look back.

People say Booz Allen was a better company before going public many years ago. I personally doubt that.

Have you started applying?

I have no intention of waiting for the last moment and then competing with everyone else who’s been laid off for the few jobs that’ll be left. Yes, I won’t get severance if I leave on my own, but frankly, I’d rather have a job than some money and the uncertainty of finding something else.
