Thread regarding Paramount Global layoffs

So remote folks shouldn’t expect anything definitive until the dust settles?

I’ve heard so many different versions, and it’s honestly confusing. From what I can tell, there’s still nothing final. Unfortunately, it sounds like the uncertainty for remotes will drag on a bit longer, especially for those who don’t neatly fit into the LA or NYC setups. Do we know if we could still get caught in this round, or are we considered a separate case altogether?

@av Unless you’re in Montana, you’re an at-will employee...meaning the company can change the terms of your employment, including where the job is based. If those terms aren’t met, termination is legally allowed. That’s not trolling, just a fact of how employment law works. Don't blame the messenger.

@av Trolling? Yeah you’re definitely not worth the time. Upleveling your reading comprehension may be a better use of your time.

@ap Paramount recruited ME, knowing darn well that I didn't work within hundreds of miles of an office. I know you're trolling, but troll better, dude.

@ap Special treatment? People no where near an office were recruited as remote workers. How is that expecting special treatment? It’s fine if the company no longer wants remote workers - good luck to them as the nepo baby continues to fail.

@aj They should know that’s not how the real world works. They were getting special treatment and they shouldn’t be upset now that they’re being treated like everyone else.

@aj And on the flip side, plenty of remote workers accepted hybrid roles and relocated with the entitled expectation they’d transition to fully remote, which is what ended up happening. Lower-level HR approved it – and now here we are.

@a8 No one expects special treatment. People were hired as REMOTE WORKERS

Next week storm will hit both Remote and in person workers with more damage expected for remote workers

I don’t understand why remote workers think they they are privy to some special treatment compared to us to go into the office everyday

@a1 you are correct that nobody is safe next week. However, phase one has no bearing on what’s happening. I am able to rehire the six roles I lost. They just have to be in New York or LA.

My understanding is nobody is safe in this round. (both remote and non-remote) Then, the remote folks that remain after this will be subject to Round 2.

From what I remember in a work email, they are going to figure out what to do with fully remote workers around the middle of next year.

I think you should either move so that you could be in office like everyone else (you’re not special) or prepare to be laid off.

I think you should go into next week thinking no one is safe, regardless of RTO phase status... I think the number of non-buyout people impacted is going to depend on how many in Phase 1 took the package.
