Layoffs at Amana plant

Nearly 300 people shown the door. This is definitely not all, considering that layoffs are supposed to be part of modernization plan announced a few months ago. I'm betting they'll "modernize" even more people out of their jobs before they consider it over. Sad days in Amana.

Cutting AirMI is admitting defeat

I'm on GT.. we're a supporting function, cost center, I get it, we're going to be targeted for cuts. But airmi makes the actual product, don't they?

No growth company divests from producing its producing its actual main product. No amount of 'modernization' is going to make up for lost capacity from manpower, as I see it.

Doubled Sabre's engineering workforce

From the COO's updated bio on the website:

"During this period of significant change, he was instrumental in modernizing the company’s operating model—most notably by securing strategic partnerships focused on technology modernization and AI-driven code conversion. These initiatives more than doubled Sabre’s engineering workforce, increased development velocity, and delivered greater efficiency and value to customers.'

You can't make it up.

(Well, apparently you can.)

COBOL modernization no longer requires years of consultant work

AI’s ability to replace work traditionally done by
human consultants threatens parts of IBM’s
business model.
Sounds like it will help accelerate and increase RAs which is right in-line with IBM's business model.

Underrated Incompetence of Execs

Now we all know our executives are extremely incompetent, everyone knows that.
An underrated part of how incompetent they are, is the “modernization” effort to transition from on prem to being Microsoft’s bi--h on Azure’s pricing leash.
Now you see, Jensen Huang, Meta, innovative companies, buying and building these data centers,
We sold our house in 2009 after the crash, people won’t think about it now, but data centers are only increasing in value, and we sold at rock bottom as always.

Mainframe is in trouble

Commonwealth Bank, Australia's largest bank and in fact the largest company, has successfully migrated their core banking system off the mainframe onto SAP S/4 Hana on an AWS cloud system. They expect to retire their mainframe in 18 months, and it's now only processing credit card transactions.
If Comm Bank can successfully retire their mainframe, then anyone can do it. The argument for keeping the mainframe has always been it's crucial for high transaction high security environments, but this proves that is not the case.
It's only a matter of time before other FSI companies, and governments, follow the same path.
