Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

My Layoff Update

I was laid off in November from the Midland office and it's honestly been a blessing in disguise. Fortunately I got hired on a new job very quickly but I do miss the people I worked with. With my new career path its so nice to be fully utilized and not be bottlenecked by discipline engineering and needing the approval of 3 different departments to do something. I forgot how nice it was to not work for a corporation.

Where are you working now? I would love to leave as soon as possible.

That is usually what happens when someone gets laid off. There was a mismatch in needs and skills. I would say many of us are more skilled than we are used for in a large corporation. Here, your job is to be a cog in the machine. You don't have to do that well and they don't want you to rock the boat, just put your bolt on and move the machine down the assembly line. Its hard to accept that for many people (including myself). The company says they want creativeness and innovation, but then stifles any innovation you come up with 'why you can'ts'.
