Has anyone heard any news regarding the return of furlough mechanical employees? Is so, how many per craft and why the return? Did they get a new contract or is it that Colton can’t handle the extra work that was taken away from Los Angeles?

How does all this still work?

Sometimes I really wonder how UP still somehow works, but anything is possible as long as there are those of us who are still here and continue to work under constant burnout. As long as there are people who will agree to such poor working... — read more

Looking for a job outside the industry?

I’m still not sure if I would apply for jobs outside of this industry. However, it seems that I will have to because I have sent out a lot of applications and so far I haven't had much success in looking for a new job. How many job applications have... — read more

Being a manager at UP

How good do you think their job is? Who would like to be a manager at UP? Despite the fact that many believe that managers in UP do nothing, I would not like to be a manager in this company even for a single day. I can’t wait to get out of here and... — read more

I read that his time was up at he end of June. Well, June has come and gone now. Is he still around? Will the executive team announce he's leaving the company. I hope they do announce his departure. Him leaving I definitely want to see, but the... — read more

First off, I don’t work for UP (I have a relative that worked for UP that left for better employment and I visit this site because I am interested in the dynamics of organizations that downsize). I don’t understand why the employees stay with this... — read more

Another major derailment

PSR strikes again. Yesterday around 2pm the NPPR derailed in Ames Iowa taking out both main lines and spilling Hazmat while putting almost 30 cars on the ground . Locals had to be evacuated. I really hope the shareholders are ok.

"If you don't like it quit"

How many times have you heard that sentence? I can’t believe they say that to their employees. They don't seem to understand that the point is not for people to quit, but that the point of their job is to get the best out of people and do... — read more

Many pinned their hopes on being recalled?

I'm just wondering if these people who were ruthlessly cut, and later called in again, were at least offered the same pay and other basic working conditions that they had before? I really need a job because I haven't been able to find a new one... — read more

Compa

I wish every district could have a compa. There’s nothing better than coming to work on the railroad with the grumpiest, man-Gina that complains about everything. Maybe he should bid out.

New sherif in town in Arkansas

Chicken man chickened out so they brought in the sherif to clean the place up. About time they got rid of the good ol boy club. Play time is over boys.

Why did you apply for a job here?

I often wonder what I did wrong in my life to deserve to end up at Union Pacific. I knew before that the situation here is not good at all, but I thought people were exaggerating and it couldn’t be this bad. This is one big joke of a company from... — read more

We Are One Locomotive

How does everyone feel about the new engine? Does it make you feel special inside? Would you rather be laid off if it saved enough money to pay for this new engine and symbol of unity?

Was this ever a good place to work?

I often hear oldtimers lament about the "good old days" when working here was great and everything functioned properly and I have trouble believing that. I can understand a company changing somewhat throughout the years but I can't see this place... — read more
