We need a new straightUp truth article explaining how nobody wanting to work here is making us a safer railroad. If they never come to work at UP they can’t get injured ! .

Do you really think this greedy organization will willingly give out pay raises? They place no value on any of us and will let you go as soon they can. Things are terrible for the employees here and are not going to get better. The railroad of the past is gone and will never return.
How about a pay raise! Record profits and pay gets worse every year. Local jobs in my zone were changed to a lower class of pay by like $50 per day after being paid higher rate for ever. It’s going to take one entire contract to get us back to where the pay should be without a raise. Can’t earn guarantee because you work low paying jobs 6 days a week hit FR 2 times and your making what you made 10 years ago while your trying to explain to your spouse why you and your family have to sacrifice for this place when it doesn’t even pay that great anymore.
Well good luck recruiting new people to come to the toxic waste dump of UP. Hahahahahaaaaaaa
Why would anyone want to return and be exploited again? They don't own us. I left a year and a half ago after 12 years of employment and never been happier. There is zero incentive to stay, and it only gets worse every year. Go out on your own terms instead of being another victim of corporate greed.
As maintenance, I worked for UP for 4 years and was laid off twice. Working in shift work and having odd days off was just part of the job and I was willing to make that sacrifice as it was a decent paying job and I enjoyed my coworkers. To be honest, the pay pretty decent, but keep in mind I live down in the South. My expectation from UP was to treat me decently, ensure the pay hit my bank account on time, and provide job security. Union Pacific provided 1 out of the 3 as I never had a problem with the pay hitting my bank account. At first, UP treated everyone decently but it soon went down hill when they introduced MAPS and FTX for the maintenance people. Job security was not there when UP decided to call me on my day off both times to inform me that I was laid off. The second time UP did that I decided there was no way I could work for a company who treated their employees with such disregard.
Like the previous person, I worked with some stellar coworkers who gave UP their all but, like me, ended up getting furloughed twice in a 4 year period with no prior indication of impending furlough. I've had a couple years now to get my life in a better position and, if called back, will definitely not return. I had fun there but I no longer trust the management nor the company. I place my family first and UP places their employees last. Not for me.
All of stl furloughed have been recalled. At last glance 30 are coming back out of 80. And a lot of those 50 people were phenomonal individuals to work with and cared about the craft and took pride in it. Found other employment and told Lance to eat it. It's a shame that this company runs off great people. But who can blame them for leaving? Absolutely nobody
I would say it’s only obvious that railroads need to do one of two things. Pay the employees more to deal with the railroad life and abuse or motive the working conditions and how you treat your employees. If people aren’t comfortable no back or applying that means you aren’t offering enough for people to take a risk on your bad reputation.
They cut employee throats and then expect them to come back like slaves! What a pathetic thought process. Lance Fritz is a egotistical mo--n. How about a decent contract Lance? How about better benefits Lance? How about treating your employees like part of the team Lance? Why not ask your current employees why they want to leave and then you could get a grip on reality instead of the warped view of the railroad from the board room? This current batch of executives needs to burn in he-l for the way they’ve treated people.
And still a shortage of crews to run trains! I thought we were building america?
If Gomez Addams can run a Railroad... anybody can...
We have seen Union Pacific destroy infastructure shut down railyards scrap air compressors , sell cranes capable of lifting entire locomotives , shut down and scrap oil tanks fuel tanks , destroy everything to not return to normal ,these leaders have ruined the railroad and it will take million if not billions to put it back to where it was just six years ago ie pulling freight
