Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Retaining existing employees should be top priority

How many people would come back here? My opinion is that not only will most of the people who are furloughed not return to UP, but the company will lose a lot of people who are still here expecting a pay raise in vain. Perhaps UP should consider whether in these times of huge workforce shortages it was more important to retain the existing employees.

@1jwb Scientific knowledge consists of facts. You don’t have a choice whether or not you want to believe them because they are proven to be true. For example 1+1=2, a square has 4 sides, and the earth revolves around the sun. If you don’t believe in scientific knowledge, you are simply delusional and probably of low IQ.

Ahh the sheeple and their love of science. I’ll bet you think electric cars are environmentally friendly and coal is a pollutant. Please pray for the fools that believe everyone lie they are told.

Retain existing employees? UP would let everyone go if they could. They don’t want any employees. We are not valued and you should realize this by now.

UP recently announced record quarterly profits, so time for more layoffs not retaining employees.

If you're looking for a part time job that's unreliable, you'll love the new UP.

Yeah retention of what employees they have left should be top priority, but it won't be. The executive team caused this mess. Kudos to the ones that stuck it out. I left for a reason, and that reason hasn't changed. The UP just can't pay me enough to come back to deal with it again. They did the mass layoffs and closures before, so what makes anyone think that they wouldn't do it again? Hire a bunch of people back to correct the backlog of freight. Once the backlog is cleared, then those that were brought back are now no longer needed. Now take a wild guess at what they'd do next. Remember, profits before employees!

Reality per quarterly earnings call employment projected to be flat 30,000
Thru 2021. 70% retention furlough employees which means 30 % say bye bye. No value of employees just pieces of meat. Safety equals liability not safety.

To call back 12 LA mechanics they had to go about 20 deep off the roster....so almost half the call backs turned them down

Yes it should be, but this company doesn’t care about existing employees.
