I left MDT and they called me to come back.

I left 3 years ago, and man, I loved it at MDT. I had a great boss, great work, and just the best work friends ever. I was happy with my salary and benefits, too. I learned a lot and became a great professional largely because of my time there. They called me to go back last week.

And so it's devastating to say I told my ex-VP I wouldn't... because Geoff Martha is still CEO and for as long as that is true, it just isn't a stable place to work. I was privy to a lot of the details of RIF work and so much of it really was because of sh---y financial results, despite them calling it "OPTIMIZATION". Eventually they were even sacking really brilliant people that consistently delivered.

Really sad and they could turn it around if the board wasn't a bunch of rent-seekers and would do the right thing and get rid of GM.

Census optimization apology

Apologies.
Please be aware that planned optimization activities must be postponed this weekend because we migrated our accounts and nobody in the department can reach the share point with the list of lucky block 6 lottery winners.
We are working around the clock and expect to have normal randomized employee census optimization up and running soon.
IT apologies for any delay in receiving your severance.

PS : next month we expect to have the census agent bot up and running. It will work round the clock to detect any employee down time and automatically fire people when direct labor drops below daily targets.
These are exciting times.

Happy separations day!

I'm so sick and tired of layoffs and reorgs and whatnots

Shouldn't we be operating at peak efficiency by now considering how many times we've had to go through optimizations and reorganizations, all accompanied by layoffs? Yet I never see any improvements after any of these, I only see things become progressively worse.

Fresh Start. . . Renewed Optimism

Ever wonder what it feels like to work inside a corporation that’s shrinking, expanding, consolidating, offshoring, rebranding, cost‑optimizing, culture‑eroding, “thriving together,” recharging, refreshing, and “strategically transforming” all at once—while leadership insists everything is BAU and perfectly normal?

It’s like watching a building burn while someone in a branded polar fleece calmly assures you it’s “just a controlled enhancement to long‑term stability,” right before the ceiling collapses behind them.

And because it’s a new year, leadership has prepared a cheerful continuing resolution —delivered with the warmth of a broken space heater and the sincerity of a captured strongman awaiting arraignment for crimes against humanity:

“Expect increased toxicity, more layoffs, more offshoring, and steady gaslighting to brighten and warm your spirits.”

Truly inspiring. Afterall, nothing says fresh start like a forecast of cultural decay wrapped in corporate confetti and lightly dusted with the faint aroma of smoldering ethics.

But wait—leadership wants you to celebrate.
Yes, CELEBRATE!

So plaster on your best “I’m totally fine” smile and go take a few selfies and post on social media.

And don’t forget to hashtag your favorite EC member—you know, the one hiding behind “strategic pillars” like a kid playing corporate hide‑and‑seek. Extra credit if you catch them mid‑pose for their next phony empathy post, those perfectly curated LinkedIn masterpieces where they pretend to care about employee well‑being while quietly checking their bank statements and discreetly approving the next round of “optimization.”

Because nothing captures the modern corporate experience quite like being told to “embrace the journey” while knowing your organization is in a sharp nosedive.

Tray tables up, folks!

Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority

Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority has initiated RIFs. The Uncasville-based casino operator did not specify the number of employees affected. These layoffs are a cost-cutting measure projected to achieve $9 million in annual savings. The move follows continued net losses, despite higher fourth-quarter revenues. These reductions aim to optimize the company's cost structure and align staffing with strategic priorities amid weaker domestic resort segment results.

Switzerland

Pfizer is implementing significant layoffs in Switzerland as part of its global cost-cutting initiative. The pharmaceutical giant plans to reduce its Swiss workforce from approximately 300 to 70 staffers by the end of the year. This consolidation will result in about 230 job cuts, affecting 100s of employees. The company stated the moves are to streamline and realign resources, reduce complexity, and optimize work. These actions align with Pfizer's broader goal of realigning R&D, reducing administrative expenses, and optimizing manufacturing operations.

💣 Mic drop: “We hired big, lost our soul, and fired our way to simplicity.” Sound familiar? It should. Corporate America’s doing it on repeat.

💥 “Too many layers. Too much overlap.” That’s the official reason Target just gave for cutting 1,800 corporate jobs — right before the holidays.

Let’s call it what it is:
A corporate hangover from years of over-hiring, over-layering, and under-leading.

While executives play musical chairs and consultants whisper “simplify” into boardrooms, real people — talented, loyal humans — are getting blindsided with a “Team Huddle” calendar invite that changes their lives.

Target says this isn’t about cost cutting.
But when you eliminate nearly 8% of your HQ workforce and scrap another 800 vacant roles, it sure looks like an “optimization” deck dressed in empathy fonts.

The saddest part?

They didn’t just lose roles. They lost trust, culture, and identity — piece by piece, meeting by meeting, memo by memo — until “Joy!” became a tagline instead of a truth.

And now, the same leaders who created the layers are holding “listening sessions” about the pain they caused.

Make it make sense.

If you’re still standing in retail or corporate America, take notes.
👉 Bloat is the first step toward bloodletting.
👉 “Simplify” means someone’s about to be sacrificed.
👉 And “we value our team” usually ends with a legal disclaimer.

The real headline isn’t that Target laid off 1,800 people.

It’s that every major company could be one reorg away from calling it “progress.”
