Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Laid off yesterday

The calendar invite arrived about 90 minutes before the call. It just said ‘Catch-up’. I knew what it was before I even clicked "Join."

My manager was already there but no one from HR attended. He stayed on script—no small talk, just the standard lines about "headcount reduction" and "operating model changes." It was all over in 15 minutes.

There’s something incredibly bleak about being let go from your own living room. One click and my entire professional identity for over 10 years just disappeared. My access was cut before I could send a message to my team. My Citi email disappeared from Outlook on my mobile. My account on the OneNote app also deleted but it left a lot of the data behind lol - meeting notes, PowerPoints etc. So typical of Citi, nothing works properly.

I was left sitting in Tampa in my house with a laptop that’s just a brick to be returned. I woke up in the morning to go to work, i ended the day with no job and no plan for tomorrow.

At usaa, two weeks ago, someone just walked onto the floor at 12pm and just told people that there were layed off and to get their belongings and get out. They met in a room and discussed severence…

Brutal and embarrassing….consider yourself lucky….

This happened to me two weeks ago. The first day it was hard to remove myself from looking at teams and outlook which no longer existed. The second day I realized things I was working on were no longer my problem and that was freeing . The first Monday was tough it was habit and routine . I had no resentment I knew Citi is a cold place spending 20 plus years employed at Citi . It is hard to adjust to your new normal. What I did find encouraging is everyone I know seems better off after Citi laid them off . Be kind to yourself

@ch That's better than nothing and having to use your personal device that's degrading from all the usage thanks to Citi. Many of my peers in the office have asked their manager with extreme pushback

Catch up! They really need to catch up when AI clouds crash and expose data. Just you wait, these same people will be getting the same emails. They are sc-m of the earth.

Happened to me almost 2 years ago, on my day off no less. Fortunately I am retired now and do not miss the clowns at Citi. Make sure you get all the severance and vacation owed to you, and 401k will not make its match till March 2027. Good luck in your job search.

Such a honest take. Its so tough with commitments and family but take this as an opportunity. Dont be blind to the challenge, this will be tough, but you can do it. Onwards!

I know. (HUGS)
I worked at another bank and I was sitting in my living room, too just about to join an earnings call, when my manager pinged me around 815am asking if she could call me. I knew what it was instantly.
Like you said, stayed on script. I swear all I remember hearing was expenses. Call lasted about 10 minutes or less.
I just sat there numb. However, I was only at this company for a year and change.
It's rough now, but you'll get through this.
I feel like a hypocrite saying that, because I understand how you are feeling. It's not pleasant at all.
Wishing you and all of us the very best. 🙏🏽

Sorry to hear this happened to you. I know it’s raw and you’re trying to process things. It is a nasty way of doing things and not even getting to send a quick email to your team is wrong. It the whole someone’s there one day and then they disappear. People either say nothing or make vague statement s like “X is no longer with the company” or “X is pursuing new opportunities”.

The absolute dehumanized approach that they're going with is disgusting. At the end of the day, we're just numbers. We're not people. We don't have lives, or families, or obligations. All while Jane laughs.

Just a job, man - many people got confused and start identifying themselves with the companies they work for - you should create your own brand and work for yourself - you provide a service to the company - you gauge how much time you spend, based on how much they pay you - and that is it. Good luck with the job search!
