If so, when? Confused after some recent announcements. Specifically upstream.

VBG Jobs Being Backfilled
The cuts in VBG definitely had to be performance based. I’ve been looking up VBG jobs that have been posted in Jan in various states on Verizon careers website and there are several openings for client executives, senior account manager/account executive roles and the retail smb positions. Some of the cities I selected recently had people riffed in that area/territory last month and now the job is open and there was NOT additional headcount last quarter so the q4 hiring freeze is not the reason the job is open now. essentially they just axed some people to get rid of them and hopefully bring on better talent in Q1. At least that’s how it appears to me, what do you folks think? 🤷♂️
Just trying to understand
Can someone help me understand how laying off thousands of U.S. team members while backfilling roles with TII is supposed to help Target grow? We’re replacing people who understand our operations and culture with teams that, in many cases, aren’t being given the chance or tools to learn how Target truly works. Are we really strengthening the company by cutting experienced U.S. talent just to hire three offshore roles for the cost of one? I’m struggling to see how this strategy positions Target to become a powerhouse again.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand there’s a lot of corporate bloat. We have plenty of senior managers and above who no one can quite explain what they do, aside from adding meetings to talk about meetings. I get that there’s a need for change. But the acceleration program doesn’t seem to be targeting what actually needs to go away.
How long until they start backfilling in TII?
If they haven’t been increasing headcount there already to trim here, I speculate they will start backfilling there eventually. I’ve seen it happen at other companies.
“Normalize not backfilling”
I understand tools like Copilot help pick up the pieces. But, That’s insane to say.
No backfilling
Is this another way of quietly reducing the number of employees? We’ve had several positions sitting open for months, one since April, and nothing’s happening. All of us are taking on extra work we shouldn’t have to do just to cover for it, and at this point, I’ve got a feeling it’s going to stay that way.
RIF's are coming soon to WellMed
I work for WellMed. We are now under Optum, it's been about a month. I was told with this transition, they will be making cuts immediately as soon as next week. A lot of people dont know this is gonna happen so i know its going to shake people up (rightfully so). Its very unsettling the amount of layoffs the entire organization goes through every year. I've only been here for 7 years and every year, there are layoffs. They cut people, don't replace them, or if they do its with AI or they dont promote employees.
