The How Does NOT Matter

I'm going to step down

Go back to my craft. According to TCU, the agreement recommended 24% raise. Shoot, I'll make alot more money and not be part of the shatt show anymore.

Boy, this union negotiation is stressing me out

I hope we reach an agreement soon. Trying to figure out if I have to get a second job to cover my medical. I was told that the max wage increase will not be over 5% in a 2 yr. contract. Basically we would be in the negative due to the increase in... — read more

I feel so bored

There hasn't been enough work for the past few months. I'm not sure if this is an indicator of my future here but if it is and I'm to be laid off, bring it on. With so much toxicity and so little to do, I can think of many better things to do with my... — read more

Silent Service

Providing a service and being compensated to provide for my family has always been first . No special recognition was needed . Sacrifices have been made by plenty of men and women as such over the decades. Present Day my opinion has changed . I... — read more

Experience gained

I spent a little over a year here and now it's time to leave. I was hoping to gain a lot more experience that would help me get a better job later, but I didn't have the opportunity to upgrade my skillset. Maybe it has to do with me. That is why I... — read more

3.5% raise 2yr. contract

With that said alot of jobs will be absorbed by contractors. UP forcasts alot of resignations after the contract is final. The big dogs know what they're doing. They don't care about employees, as long as there is profit for the shareholders.

Medical cost

Any guess what the medical monthly cost will be with the new proposal? Please no hot dog or dead fish comment!

What would keep you here?

The yard I work in can’t keep the new guys around. You could give some of these guys a 50% pay raise and most I believe would still quit. I hear complaints about the difficulty of the work, weather, walking, climbing, attendance, poor moral... — read more

Bet union won't call for a strike

They're going to agree with a 3.5% raise 2 yr. contract, new rules, attendance policy and a terrible medical plan. If they strike, contractors like rail link g&w will take the jobs.

Hey stUPid!!

If your serious about recalling someone after being furloughed for 2 years. You might want to make it more enticing than a Headquarters job 20 hours from home. Just saying.

Manufactured Crisis?

These constant posts encouraging a strike or to quit, the ones that lack depth and seem repetitive. I think its a manager(s) who are pushing for single man crews. Its the old find a way to turn a loss into a win, business strategy. Inflation... — read more

Happiness is just around the corner!

News flash! Your next job will suck and so will the one after that. This place is a s***ho-e. Don’t let the “leadership” deceive you. Get out while you can.

Sept. 19 the day we walk off the job

Union is ready. Picket signs are being made as we speak. Guarantee we go on strike! Show em we need safety and more money. This is going to cause the recession for sure brother.

Time to take our loses gentlemen

As long as we work for the railroad, 19 yrs. of seniority doesn't hold much these days. I will never have a dayshift or a saturday or sunday off unless I layoff. Time for me to start looking for another line of work. Shouldn't be hard. Tons of jobs... — read more

UP union workers need to stand together

Hold hands in hopes of a contract. A raise would be nice. Talking to alot of reps in different locations, we need to strike regardless. In the end we always get shafted. The new attendance policy if it goes thru, will definitely suck. Medical is... — read more

Nothing will get better here

I think that some hope in vain that things will improve here. Can the situation get better here? Not really. Can it get worse? Yes it can. What is the miracle that needs to happen for UP to start valuing us more?

Union leader's are worried

We all know we are NOT getting that raise, if we do our medical will be thru the roof. New rules will definetly be in the new contract. It may lead to a strike. The hardball L.F. is playing, he's going to be the winner of this game!

Evaluating managers

Does anyone know how UP evaluates managers? This interests me because I have noticed that the worst managers who cause excellent employees to leave the company remain in their positions. On the other hand, I once had a great manager who did not stay... — read more
