Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Extra boards

Why won't they at least help out the people who work extra board by getting rid of guarantee and also exempting extra board workers from attendance policy and just stack the shyt out of all extra boards. The positive is They pay no guarantee .and extra board workers make their own check without fear of attendance. Also get rid of fmla scumbags who get a free pass from attendance policy.

I'm far from a manager I'm a 18 year veteran who still can't hold a regular turn job .I can hold yard jobs but the yard is an hour away so I been stuck on a 5 man extra board that covers yard and road and is always exhausted. I just think if I could lay off whenever I want and not be subject to attendance policy if the board was stacked and the company wasn't worried about guarantee because of no guarantee. Maybe that would work .I at least wish I could swap turns on my engineer extra board.

You can have FMLA and sick leave. And they don’t give you FMLA. It’s called a law and a federal requirement. Yes you would use sick leave first because that is paid. But the option of FMLA doesn’t go away just because a company offers sick leave. And you don’t have to use vacation before taking fmla.

The only reason the Union Pacific railroad offers you FMLA is because they do not give you sick leave, if they gave you sick leave you would not have FMLA, you would have to exhaust your sick leave and your vacation if you were ill or an emergency!

Mr Strike Day, are you a new employee? Are you manager? I am not even in transportation and I wouldnt agree to that. Besides I am under the impression your union officials add and subtract to the head count on the regular boards? Therefore giving them some control on how much they work (and therefore earn). In your agreement this leaves the xtra boards head count to the carrier.

I would be able to lay off and work as much as I want within my schedule because I wouldn't have to worry about attendance. So I I wanna 3500 half so be it .if I wanna lay off and not work so much so be it .that's how I envision it

I too think te&y needs a revised schedule policy. But I dont trust the carrier to just fill the xtra board so sure there is always people available. But w/ no guarantee can you pay your bills with lets say one trip a week?
