Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

My question for the longtimers:

Has it ever been worse at UP than it has been lately? I'm curious what were the golden years for you when you could feel valued here and is this one of the worst years by far?

It used to be better, 100 insurance, co pay small. We used to lay off on Friday after working non stop for months and mark back up on Monday. There was no questions asked and no issues. Constant Saftey feeds. When hurricanes came they would tell you to tie down cars and grab as much water as you need for your family and go home to prepare. These companies have gotten greedy and don’t value their employees.

I don't remember the RR's ever being this bad. The UP merger sucked for sure, but didn't suck like it does now. I'd say the late 80's and early 90's were better for me. You still had incompetent management back then, but they weren't the brain dead variety the UP has now

This is by far the worse I’ve ever seen it (been here since the late 90’s) I remember my predecessors telling me stories about SP then owned by Phil Anshutz going thru a phase called “deferred maintenance” that sounds similar to PSR. Mentioned this months back on this forum and some guy claimed he worked back then and is still working now and this time PSR was way way way worse. But who knows if he was telling the truth. Even in better times I cant say too many people ever “felt valued”. There was a game where managers would come out, shout, make vague threats, the employees would bite their tongue, manager would go away, we’d go get the work done. Many times the employees and that same manager would meet that night at a bar, get drunk, and do it all again a few days later. You learned to let the manager put on a show, get the work done, and get paid. But it started getting worse when the head cutting started. The threats werent hollow anymore.
