Why wouldn’t you want to move to a higher cost of living location with poor schools to be paid less? Don’t you believe in #winning?

I agree, it is not pretty to lose jobs but we can make the best out of it.
Like we could have our own internal show called "The Exxon Apprentice" where supervisors start fake pip and then fire employees "You are fired" lol.
Sure the situation is definitely not pretty, but at least it will be entertaining and boost the morals a little.

For a company of engineers there sure are many illogical things going on. I've been asked to come to the office. Other people who are also in the office invite me to meetings. The meetings are then held via zoom not in person. So much #winning!

As for Guyana there is a rumor going around that we didn't even want to drill it and in fact farmed out some of our ownership percentage to others. Can anyone substantiate this claim. If true it is another great example of #winning.

There IS indication that NSI will stay high. Our VP has specifically said

  • we haven't been using the PIP as much as we should
  • "the board" believes our turnover isn't high enough to keep new/fresh ideas in the workforce
  • we offer a long term focus not lifetime employment

etc. etc.

Welcome to #winning

I'd say it speaks to the what the company has become - toxic and without opportunity. People go where there are opportunities. Oil and gas is in decline and we are leading the decline. #winning

Most people who joined the company are used to being the best - highest offer in their graduating class, joining the largest publicly traded O&G company, etc. We are a far cry from what we used to be and there is no sign the destruction is anywhere close to an end. Why stick around and wait to be PIPd? If you think this is the last of it you are naive. I strongly recommend anyone with less than 5 years leave immediately. Those with more tenure will have a harder time finding a job, but should also be looking. Follow the opportunity - it isn't at ExxonMobil. You can stick around as the company slowly dies and watch your good pay and benefits slowly die with it.

Excellent OP! I could add my own experiences with each line!

What to see our EM future foretold in print....great read "Lights Out" by Thomas Gryta about GE. The Sr. Mgmt arrogance is on par but EM, but our Dallas ' god-pod' has GE beat! #Winning

Simple, we send the best of the best and brightest as expats to teach locals or to just be awesome at taking on the worlds toughest energy challenges. After all, aren’t we the #winning?

ADP IS AMAZING!

ADP is doing great and everyone is happy here! What a great company! Carlos is a wonderful CEO! Everyone wants to work at ADP! #Winning

Does Exxon have Diversity and Inclusion and Vice Presidents that send you a poem to kick off week 1 of lay-off shortlisting? Hard to put a dollar amount on that value... #Winning

Irony

We’re an agile company that’s spent millions on a digital transformation, but we can’t deploy a simple job posting tool to handle our own layoffs. So, all of us will be browsing a 10,000 row Sharepoint list tomorrow morning to find our jobs. If that doesn’t work, I hear they are just going to print the postings on dot matrix paper and mail it to us. #Winning #GoDigital

The only thing the VPs fight for, it’s for their own job and benefits.
No Executive I ever worked for cared for anyone’s but him/herself.
Maybe they just want the others to lose

Very detailed, quantitative comparison by sector. Demonstrates value creation is hampered in all areas.
Wow - it can’t be more clear #winning

Par for the course. Also, Mike, those company masks you spent all that money on have an exhaust valve that lets out all the germs. It’s the thought that counts though. #Winning

The lead comment is willfully ignorant or misinformed. I received a pay raise of over 5%, a few months ago. I had always straddle the upper 1/3 to middle 1/3 boundary. I had excellent KOs and my supervisor told me s/he went in with a expectation for me to rank at “excellent”.
I was PIPed at the bequest of a manager/VP.

I think there are indeed people that had performance issues, but specially after removing safewards (Max 20 drop) and oversight (no input from job family, resource area) the system can be used to both punish people and clear the field of those unpopular to the upper levels. Actual performance is secondary. Skill succession (especially on critical technical areas) not a consideration.

They have to cut, and rather keep the ones they like. Next year it will be brutal. With most projects on stand-by or deferred, I expect the next ranking to be an all out game of favoritism after year of kiss a–.

As long as they have true believers in the system and the objectives, they will go on despite evidence of how they hurt themselves in the long term.
