Selling a house in former oil boom town

Anyone else recently transferred to a former boom town now looking at selling their much less valuable house now like me? Thanks for the transfer! Warning to anyone being offered an opportunity in New Mexico, West Texas, North Dakota, etc.

Why did xom move thousands of people to turn right around and lay them off? This was only after they built the unnecessarily large campus which mimics shell campus but had to be twice the size. The problems start at the top.

No, I did which I am now figuring out what to do with since no one is buying and prices are way down. Of course company will do nothing to help out and there aren’t any jobs in this small one horse oil town so I have to sell and move. If I was in Houston still at least there would be a chance of finding a job without selling at a loss a house I bought a couple months ago.

I hope you didn’t buy a house!

My supervisor was upset because he was happy with my work but said my prior group had the final say on my ranking since I spent most of the year there. Icing on the cake was they sold me to him prior to the transfer by saying how great I was then PIPd me after I moved. Only thing I can figure is my spineless former supervisor didn’t have the courage to fire someone so this was an easy way out for him.

If you don’t expect 10 years + at a location, just rent. Most ExxonMobil locations are boom and bust.
Likely more than not that we get moved to one on high cycle and moved or laid off in low...

Why wouldn’t you want to move to a higher cost of living location with poor schools to be paid less? Don’t you believe in #winning?

I’m a glass half full guy. At least when I sell my house at a huge loss and move from New Mexico I won’t have to pay the high state income tax that is no longer covered since they eliminated the cost of living adjustment.
