Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Why the obsession with dragging people to the Spring campus?

As COVID cases continue to sky rocket, I don’t understand why XOM leadership is forcing people to be on Spring campus and put everyone at risk. I am on the protocol where I am on campus every other week. My experience is that there is very little interaction between people on campus. All it does is waste peoples time in commuting and eats into productive work time.

China and India oil demand are up vs last year. What lock down. Chinese and Indians work hard and are smart and they will take your jobs. This is not about work from home. This is the beginning of work from India.

Show up at the campus or get added to the MOH “watch” list. Come to the campus, get the virus, die and ExxonMobil collects the “janitor” life policy $$. There is a policy for every employee. Walmart’s HR error brought this to light many years ago.... Take responsibility of your own health. Do what’s best for you and your family!

Managers say “we leave it your judgement if you want to come back to campus”.
That is code speak for “get your a– to campus or we will fire you”.

Not all groups are being required to return. I have not heard of Or seen any mandates at this time to return to campus.

My god people everything management says is only lip service. It's been my experience to do the exact opposite of whatever they recommend. If they say come, I go. If they say jump, I stand still. It's all a game of smoke and mirros and sleight of hand trickery. I have never experienced any CEO, VP or line supervisor that had any ounce of simple common sense.

@xdy+17W9VnpM - do tax benefits justify putting employees health and life at risk?
This from a company that can’t stop talking about safety and caring.

I've heard there are tax benefits associated with the Spring Campus which are only received if the building maintains a minimum level of occupancy.

@orn+17W9VnpM The judgement phrase is so typical. Management will be happy to claim any good work you do but if you fail obviously you didn't use good judgement.

If you are a long term employee and have a fat salary and older and covid gets you, then they wont need to pay you severance, possibly save on pensions while also collecting possible payment from your insurance in case they insured under your name. I think it used to be called dead peasant insurance LOL.

Management reverting to that old standard “employees should use their best judgement “ responsibility cop-out. As it is they have us jammed into 1x offices where, in normal times, you can barely lean back in your chair without knocking heads with the person behind you

You obviously haven't read the updated VIP program fine print. The additional way we will meet head count reductions is through COVID infections. We only want employees who are healthy enough to fight off COVID! Long term savings for our health care and pension plan by culling the weak.

For a company of engineers there sure are many illogical things going on. I've been asked to come to the office. Other people who are also in the office invite me to meetings. The meetings are then held via zoom not in person. So much #winning!

Because we like to do #winning face-to-face! Would you hire #TheBestAndBrightest to simply have them interact virtually? NO WAY!

When it keeps getting spread around they will permanently sh– down the country and xom will have bigger problems.

If you show resistance it will definitely be a precursor to pip/layoff so be careful with that.

Because when they moved to Spring they promised local vendors (food service, dry cleaning, etc.) that they would bring 1000s of people to the Springarea to spend money. Its your job to spend money on their friends, not just keep it for yourself!

OP I believe you made a typo in your message as you should have said management not leadership. We have a management team not a leadership team.

It is because our management is helpless. They can't even run their own Zoom meeting or advance their own slides. They need us there to tie their shoes for them.

I know someone that works for Chevron. They continue to operate virtually to contain the risk of infection.
Can’t help admiring Chevron. They care for their people and drive better results at the same time. XOM should learn from Chevron.

1000% so people buy gasoline. They want us to “set an example” for other companies and unfortunately this comes at the cost of our coworkers health.

@ypp+17W9VnpM - with this inept leadership, we will all go home soon or in a few months. This company is being run into the ground.

Because they want people to spend money. People no longer commuting to work means lower revenues for O&G.

The BS about face-to-face collaboration is a smokescreen. They’re willing to let people get sick to stimulate their business.
