Like most things in life there are tradeoffs. The US system has good things. When you are fired it is definitely harder than in other places though.

No, you should be mad at the US system where the employee is squeezed for every last drop and all they can say is thank you sir may I have another. Then if you like Euro and Aussie systems more,, direct your anger to meaningful change

I agree, it is not pretty to lose jobs but we can make the best out of it.
Like we could have our own internal show called "The Exxon Apprentice" where supervisors start fake pip and then fire employees "You are fired" lol.
Sure the situation is definitely not pretty, but at least it will be entertaining and boost the morals a little.

At the end of the day I hate to see employees anywhere lose their jobs. This industry was a lot more fun when we were riding at the top and oil prices were high. Unfortunately that isn't where we are now. I would like to see more positive posts on this forum. Can't we band together and support each other. Share ideas of how to move forward. This board is beginning to resemble the culture so many claim to be against.
I'd be fine with the company PIPing anyone who votes for candidates that support stopping the oil industry.
For all the people comparing salaries, benefits, etc. from country to country it is a fools errand. For example, people say the salary is higher in the US. Well, so are our health care costs and we are on our own for retirement especially now with the savings plan match cut. You can't just cherry pick the one item you see as being unfair and ignore all other considerations.
No because the only reason they are is their government has laws that require it.
If you have a problem with that difference I would recommend you take it up in the ballot box. This isn't a matter of corporate policy but regional governmental policies.
What were the packages offered for Europe & Australia?
As an EM engineer, I worked 28/28 (EMDC). But, of course, during the ‘28 on’ the hours were endless. Still, it was nice getting nearly 6 months off a year, year after year. I retired 5 years ago. Seems like the oilfield has changed a lot since my time in it. I found that EM was a great company to work for. Great word-class projects and, in generally, great people. Keep safe! I pray that you all land on your feet without losing your legs.
I know seen plenty of US engineers that work 60-80 weeks so I do not believe that at all.
Definety disagree that US works half the hours. Many folks regularly spend 50~60 hrs/wk working. Highly doubt our international counterparts are putting in 80+
You get paid dubbel and work half the hours in the US dumb–s.
I'm not mad at all. The company owes you ABSOLUTELY NOTHING? Stop complaining that an executive makes $1,000s more an hour than you. You can always quit. Our executives get a compensation package that allows an annual $million housing allowance, their wife a ride on the company jet(s) for lunch with her friends to NYC anytime she wants, a clothing allowance for 50 - $10k suits EACH YEAR, kids get to use the company limo/driver for their proms, the list is endless.... There is something wrong when you have a team of engineers or geoscientists who are crammed into some packed United coach seats working out the details on how to make an operation more efficient, find the best reservoir, or meet with vendors to save the company millions... and the wife of an executive and her buddies are opening a bottle(s) of expensive champagne on the company jet flying wherever their heart desires. Too many bad decisions, arrogance, & gluttony... that is why we are where we are.
Troll post.
Every smart person, not the OP, knows you cannot compare countries.
Health care, pension, taxes are all different.
Just worry about yourself and family.
More-on
Guys in US are less taxed. You are more taxed and you have a free healthcare, generous social security and free education. We pay for them, that why we get paid more. You get almost four times more in social benefits than us. So stop comparing with US and take your arrogant a$$ somewhere else.
Guys in US get almost double we get outside US, can’t have it both ways
Yes but a lot of them made less.
No. Different countries, different laws. Simple.
They are doing what they can get away with in each country. In the U.S., you can pretty much do anything. Winning!!
It is rubbish, but should also be noted the EM employees have a much much higher salary than equivalent European employees to begin with, so swings and roundabouts in a way
Hah dream on.
Add me to the “mad as hell” list.
Not mad at them, but mad at HQ for treating everyone different!!!! Should have been the same for everybody!
Well they have better laws and we in TX have nothing! So why compare?
