grow some balls
Geologist 38 years - I was laid off in 1992 from the finest independent oil company in Dallas. Two more busts - in 2008 and now. Company geologist and engineers frequently bitch all day about their current employer - but they probably couldn't make... — read more
How deep will the cuts be?
I have been assuming a 20% cut, but our peers and most other companies in the industry are cutting much deeper (40% and more). What do you think they will do?
Denbury is better than most
Complain all you want but this place is better than anywhere my friends are today. They care. You can second guess all you want but at the end of the day I see them doing the best they can with what they have. Phil answers my questions at the coffees... — read more

Be the one working hard if they're making a list than freaking out over the possibility
The industry is imploding and maybe they are having to make these decisions. I'd rather be the one working hard if they're making a list than freaking out over the possibility. Maybe it will prevent me from being ON the list. Last time I thought they... — read more
Denbury leaders should follow the lead of Anadarko
The Anadarko management team actually cares enough to email their employees with information on how they plan to survive the downturn. This is what was sent to employees via email today: "...it is now necessary to consider the appropriate workforce... — read more
Black Monday?
Anyone think the RIF is coming tomorrow? Wouldn't a layoff on the first day of the month make sense for simplifying payroll and health insurance benefits? Just speculating, obviously.
So what is next
What would be your advice for someone going through this? Is anyone hiring in Dallas? Houston and Oklahoma City is in same mess as us.
Life after Denbury
After many years in oil and gas I was laid off in June 2015. I have looked for another job in the Dallas area to no avail. Unemployment benefits only lasted for six months. $12000 max. I have been working on Plan B. I do believe the older workers... — read more
It starts at the top!
So sad to see such great, committed, hard working people let go when they need to CLEAN HOUSE on a bunch of their management and several executives! I think it is terrible the way they are handling this layoff. Employees are making themselves sick... — read more
Is today the day?
So the coffee's with Phil were canceled for today and nearly all of the conference rooms are booked for most of the day. So is today the day they do the big layoff? There is also word the RM and DD are merging any word on that?
The stress is HORRIBLE on morale
Why didn't they coordinate all of the layoffs on the same day like they did last summer? Starting in one department has made everyone paranoid! It's not like this isn't already hard enough on everyone. Now our days look like this: toss and turn in... — read more

Does anyone know what kind of reduction in staff would be needed to sustain the company with oil at $50 - $55 after Denbury's hedging ends? 10%? 30%? Any guesses?
2015 Layoffs at Denbury
Do you think that the dropping prices of oil might cause a large round of layoffs at Denbury? I know that BP, Shell, Exxon and other large players already had layoffs in 2015 and will continue to cut payroll. But what about us?
Plano Layoffs
Do you know if we'll be cutting resources in the corporate office in Plano? I heard rumors and the overall situation with the oil prices is just making me anxious.
