Thread regarding Denbury Resources Inc. layoffs

Denbury leaders should follow the lead of Anadarko

The Anadarko management team actually cares enough to email their employees with information on how they plan to survive the downturn. This is what was sent to employees via email today:

"...it is now necessary to consider the appropriate workforce needs our new environment requires. We have asked each organization in our company to provide input so we can evaluate how to best reduce our staffing given the lower activity we now anticipate. We will be considering that analysis in the coming weeks, and plan to have the majority of changes and transitions defined and communicated by the end of the first quarter."

Everyday I miss my friends that have been released, but I think Phil and the management team have done a good job of keeping everyone in the loop via the quarterly meetings and the "Coffees with Phil" sessions. They speak to us directly, rather than through email broadcasts. I heard that one company actually announced layoffs via an audio announcement over their PA system. Regardless, we all know that protracted tough times are here for our industry, and the possibility of more staff reductions is looming ever present. There's absolutely nothing we can do about it except to keep working hard to continue to identify and improve efficiencies where ever possible, cut costs as much as possible, and pray that we can all weather this storm.

The industry is imploding and maybe they are having to make these decisions. I'd rather be the one working hard if they're making a list than freaking out over the possibility. Maybe it will prevent me from being ON the list. Last time I thought they were fair and treated everyone with respect. There isn't any reason they won't be that way again if all this is true. It's a good company with good people at all levels.

Denbury has gotten so dysfunctional from the very top down. Wish someone would just buy us.

Stupid comments like that tend to be put on Websites by HR to reduce the credibility of the employee positions. I believe the initial post made a good point.

I got an idea, get rid of all the middle management, they don't do shit for the company anyways. They sit around, gossip, brown nose the upper level management, and sit around wondering who are they going to recommend to layoff next. All upper management cares about is filling up their pockets with money before the company goes under. Why doesn't the CEO Phil give back the millions of dollars in bonuses for the past year before laying us off?
