Topics regarding layoffs at Pearson PLC

Big changes ??

I think more layoffs are coming based on things that are happening now. Student support is pushing metrics again and I wonder if they are looking to cut low performers. Anyone know anything?

Our leadership is beyond help

Preaching to the choir here, but I just can’t believe the ridiculousness of the PEM Andy has assembled. They are incapable of logical decision making when it actually matters. They only things they have accomplished is to ‘limit bureaucracy’ (which... — read more

HE 9.5% Goal?

5% stub year goal. 10% of the salesforce made the 5% goal last year.

Moonlighting policy?

I’m a new-ish current employee of Pearson and thinking of getting a second gig on evenings/weekends to save extra money. Is this allowed? Does Pearson have policies against second jobs? I couldn’t find any specific policy.

Will we ever reach at least some level of stability?

I’ve been at the company for 8 years, and not a year went by without some sort of reorgs happening. The threat of layoffs is something you have to learn to live with and there is always danger that they will throw you into some other organization. .. — read more

New employee

Is it a bad time to accept a job at Pearson right now? Reading this forum makes me nervous…

Sales Goals

Do you think sales reps will get their goals after Fall orders start coming in to ensure goals are slightly out of reach for the majority of reps?

Another new executive

While we in POLS and others in different divisions are facing potential job eliminations, another executive was hired. I completely understand that the position is open, but it is alarming that so many executive positions are open. Studies show... — read more

ASU POLS to begin phasing out employees in October

Or so they say. I wouldn't be surprised if it was earlier than that. EAs are quitting, and for whatever reason, Pearson is still trying to hire to replace anyone who is leaving. Pearson has been helping ASU build their own in-house business for quite... — read more

The hilarity ensues!

With the announcement that the warehouse is now located in Indianapolis, the Cranbury staff won't be shipping orders beginning tomorrow and thru the weekend. Great timing! People on the cusp of making goal or trying to bump their bonus up? Sorry... — read more

For me, this was an unexpected move

Someone said that "Everyone knew ASU was going away". Really? I know that leadership makes bad decisions, but I never could have imagined that ASU would go away.

You do not owe Pearson ANYTHING

Telling hundreds of people they are going to lose their jobs in June next year but "ask you to continue to focus on delivering our usual first-class levels of service for ASU and all our POLS partners" is a joke and shows that leadership has no idea... — read more

Bye bye ASU

Announced this morning...POLS is losing its biggest partnership, ASU, in June 2023. That's 250+ advisors and leaders that will be losing their jobs next year. But let's face it, we knew this was coming. Ineffective leadership all recycled from UOPx... — read more

The pay gap

It’s awful how the pay gap between the leading people and the employees here is getting bigger and bigger. This makes me sometimes feel like I'm working harder so our CEO can have a bigger salary and not working to earn a bigger salary myself. And... — read more

What made you lose all respect for Pearson?

Most of the people I talk to say they've lost their respect for both Pearson and the leadership. Now I'm curious if this is a thing that's true for the majority of employees throughout the company and what caused it. It'd be nice to know if it was a... — read more

Word on the Sesame Streets

is that we're going back to a calendar sales year starting on 1/1/23, thus leaving a seven month gap from May 1 to December 31. And allegedly there will be HEAVY emphasis in the 2023 incentive plan on digital, not just sales. I wonder if we see a... — read more

I think leaving is the only option

I’m sad to say this but for the first time in my life I think that leaving this company is the only life solution for me. Things are far from good but I always thought things will get at least a little better at some point. It is obvious they won’t... — read more

All reasons why Pearson is failing

Of course, the leadership, or better said, the lack of real leadership is perhaps the biggest reason the company is sinking. But to make a list of all reasons would take far too long.

We talk change but in the end no change

The more we talk about change the more things remain the same. This company will never commit to change until they purge management of these former UOP plants. Waiting for the next round of layoffs....

Very little product innovation

I’m trying to figure out the reason behind this becoming an almost entirely non-innovative company. Very bad for the company in my opinion but what could be the reason? There is probably more than one reason, but one of the biggest is that there are... — read more

Has there been change in tone toward the employees?

Has there been a change in tone toward the employees or am I noticing it now? I feel talked down to when I read any corporate communication from my department or the larger company. The retirement of the intranet is one example. People are asking... — read more

re: Another D-mb Pearson Acquisition

Has anyone in POLS had merit convos yet?

Curious to hear about what Pearson is doing regarding merit this year. With the restructure and closing of offices, not sure what to expect but I've never seen anything above 2.5% in POLS. With inflation on the rise, if they don't compensate well, I... — read more

The Global Conversation today was the worst

We’ve just had 200 people let go and that’s what these fools roll out and choose to discuss. So unprofessional, badly structured, they sound so tone deaf and stupid. Starting to think the 200 are the lucky ones.

What a toxic place.

They purged everyone but the ONE person who has been abusive, divisive and useless for years. The ego in this company is unreal….to think we would actually want to fight again for the jobs we lost to work under the tyrant who found the layoffs to be... — read more

Thoughts anyone? Company savior or flash in the pan? How does it compare to Cengage's product? Topical because successful products reduce layoffs. Sometimes.
