Is it a bad time to accept a job at Pearson right now? Reading this forum makes me nervous…

@mjnq+1h7ZgzsB Curious what your job title and function is. Are you a consultant to help with what appears to be an impending re-org, or something else??
Cool! Make sure you get lots of stock like all the other execs too. It’s brilliant. You’ll make millions as the company is broken apart or sold.
Just accepted the offer! I’ll be part of the “re-org transition team”. I’m excited and can’t wait to start.
5 - 7 years? Depends on your role. Most likely much sooner for a lay off.
Assume you will be layed off in 5-7 years.
OP it's your decision. You've read here, you can read job site reviews & look at the financial results and draw your own conclusions. Discernment.
Only you know how this company compares to your other options.
Don't listen to negative talks. Learn the job - whether it is tech, business or whatever group you are in.
I personally learned a lot in tech, specially in cloud and big data.
If the company goes south, you can still use your knowledge elsewhere.
Do not plan on this being anything other than a chance to make connections. Use it to get experience and that is all. The company is not stable. As someone else said, I would run!
RUNNNNNNNNNNN AWAY FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!!
Much depends on your level of education, your age, and where you are in your career path. If you are very young and have a major such as communications or liberal arts/humanities, Pearson could be one of the better-paying jobs available to you (beats Starbucks for example) and an interesting place to start and learn about K-12 / higher education (and you will learn a LOT about dysfunction in the corporate world).
If you are older - try really hard to find something better!
"I kind of feel like this is a baited post -- but anyone accepting a role at Pearson (or McGraw or Cengage) is a complete id!ot.
It cracks me up when I see people jump ship from one publisher to another.
What a terrible industry.
Get out, stay out, or stay away..."
Add Wiley to this list as well

Depends for what division. Workforce & Assessment for example is probably a great place to be right now.
I would stay far far away from Higher Ed/North America. Combination of absentee and dysfunctional leaders who think it’s 2002, the sales group is in complete disarray, and innovation is defined as eBooks versus print.
Couple that with declining enrollments at a break neck pace, and the fact that our largest volume of customers do everything possible to not purchase our products….I’d be running as fast as possible in any direction but towards Pearson.
No real human asks this question of any company on this site. C'mon now folks.
Don't even think about working for Pearson, that is, unless you are the type who would have enjoyed the maiden voyage of the Titanic. Pearson's sinking is taking more than a few hours, but in the end, the outcome will be the same. Don't besmirch your career and your life by joining such a dysfunctional organization managed by the congenitally incompetent.
It’s never a good time to work at Pearson. This forum is very accurate and you have all the warning you need. If you accept a job you can plan on no support, being reorganized every few months and laid off within 2 years.
duh, yeah!
The company has been re-organizing and laying off for about 10 years now. If you accept, don't anticipate working for a stable company. I suppose it depends on the group and/or role, though.
