We’ve just had 200 people let go and that’s what these fools roll out and choose to discuss. So unprofessional, badly structured, they sound so tone deaf and stupid. Starting to think the 200 are the lucky ones.

At onetime Pearson was the market leader year after year. Now the competition is beating us because they have better products, training and support. We know how poor we are in these areas and so do our customers. Pearson also lost a lot of talent on the product, management and sales side over the last five years and now we have a target on our backs. Everyone is going after us because we are big, old and weak.

@3kwl+1f5HechH Scrappy Do, funny that you mentioned higher Ed being the lifeblood when they’ve been telling us in a different group that we’re the ones holding up the entire company’s profits. They’ve been gaslighting us all with their executive fa-t talk, making us think if we can just get our heads above water it’s going to pay off. I get that corporations have no loyalty but manipulating people to hustle to save their own jobs when the only outcome of it is the execs cut you for a payout…that’s nasty. It’s no surprise they just spoke in circles and that’s all I expect from here on out.

Awkward indeed. It was like the sensible person was missing from the center top avatar. I couldn't tell when it was over as it abruptly started the video. The strategy seems to be not clogging up the values with words such as DEI because ... fear of backlash?
Checking the resumes of the players is enlightening too.

Scrappy Do, I love you and agree with all you said except the Inclusive part was conspicuously absent. I was waiting for "inclusion of diverse learners everywhere" and although repeated ad nasuem, each word was carefully chosen, I did not hear that. The is no Inclusion & Diversity value on the list. I noted that everyone at the bottom of the screen has been with the company for a very short time, yet was completely comfortable spouting feel good platitudes. That's how you get to those positions. Confidence in yourself regardless of substance.
On a technical note, for a major company, the entire presentation reeked of amateur hour. It was awkward.

That fireside chat - or whatever corp-speak they choose today - was about as disingenuous as it comes. It's the height of hubris to think that the majority of us don't see right through that sham. You want to instill an inclusive and positive culture? Fine.
But maybe look at what's been broken for years first. How about not turning professional sales people into data entry clerks? How about getting serious about customer service? How about treating your employees with the same respect you purport to offer customers? Be real. Be honest. Don't complain about higher ed sales while at the same time hamstringing the lifeblood of the company with systems that don't work, products that under-perform and ridiculous sales goals so you can justify impending layoffs...all while manufacturing some moral and dignified high ground in the name of joy. Invest in the talent you have working hard for you and perhaps we can all have something to believe in regardless of pay grade.

That session was completely irrelevant and an insult to the employees who are dealing with mess after mess after mess on a daily basis when it comes to product delivery and customer satisfaction. God forbid we work on fixing the internal mechanisms causing our downfall. Let's sugar coat it and focus on intangibles. And the HR flunkies who don't have to put themselves on the line every single hour of every single day dealing with Back To School nightmares? Give me a break. You talk a big game, but you know very little about what we have to deal with every day. Wake up.

How about figuring out how to fill orders correctly and fix the utter disaster that is our customer service team during BTS first? Culture and values can wait. Completely tone deaf and out of touch nonsense.

I can tell you one thing that wasn’t mentioned or didn’t even have a seat at the table was Higher Ed Courseware. Maybe they were kinda mentioned when the new HR person referenced needing to stop doing somethings to move forward as a company. Was she talking about Courseware? No traditional college students in the flashy new video which I found odd.

They talked about our purpose and values and how we need to create products that are a joy to use and will delight our customers. Does Pearson have any expertise in that area? Honestly most of our products do the opposite and it is challenging for us to change the smallest thing to make them better for our customers.
