Because your definition of a good time is sad. Being in EMIT, it is still not strategic in the US and so if I’m not going to have a long term career at Exxon, then all I’m left with is evaluating the short term career at Exxon. Exxon paid me 1/2 of what Amazon is now paying me, and at Amazon I can reach the equivalent of a CL32 in pay in the next 5-7 years with just good/above average performance. Would’ve taken me 25-30 years if I was insanely lucky, working 60+ hours, and doing a lot of sucking up at Exxon. So both short and long term Exxon was fu----g me. Not to mention that Amazon/AWS has a much brighter future than oil and gas. Not saying it’s going away anytime soon, but it’s definitely not going to massively grow over the next 30 years. Why do I stay? Amazon has even better benefits! And no on call for me! And I’m staying in Houston, so my costs aren’t changing at all. Just making significantly more for less work. #hotshot

Anyone worth their salt is not in EMIT anymore. I wonder if BK had anything to do with it? Oh yeah, I remember now, he humilliated the very people who work on developing the site! #HOTSHOT

Nope! None! Zilch! He is the biggest #hotshot who has landed top seat in EMIT without any tech skills.
With the flurry of all recent external hires in top leadership roles, why is BK still in the role and replaced yet with a competent and knowledgeable external hire to lead EMIT? Matter or time? Or Not happening? #hotshot
BKs #hotshot comment was insensitive and plain insulting to employees. And he openly made the comment that rightfully rubbed people wrong way. Why hasn't BK been reprimanded for his irresponsible comment and behavior made in an open forum? You may wonder. Would his boss use this behavior of his to PiP him? You know the answer, it is No. As we know all sins made by mgmt. are forgiven. If a regular employee had made such a comment it would have def. been used against him justifying his PIP, but not mgmt.
BK and mgmt. also knows that a few intelligent and those with technical and other transferable skills will leave and will be a regretted attrition, however BK and mgmt. also knows that they will still have a lot of those without transferable skills who would willingly continue to be their slaves for a paycheck and the famous PENSION! And so they will continue to insult employees because they know they have enough to keep slavery going.
The best answer for people like BK is to upskill yourself on XOM time and then leave them high and dry, like the mgmt. loves to do with people. If employees want to try out, try applying for a job outside Exxon and you will find Exxon and Exxon experience is generally no longer respected anymore, as it once used to. Don't believe me? Try it out yourself, apply for a few jobs and see yourself.
The cube craze is real! Did you see a recent one from EMIT software engineer? He posted his with a Star Trek theme holding a blue stick. It would have been complete if he had added #hotshot tag. If this is not a great resignation worthy for XOM and I am not sure what is.
