#facepalm on the watch analogies! People invest in a Rolex also for prestige and luxury more than "needs". For function, both Rolex and Casio watches tell the same exact time. In datawarehousing, luxury is irrelevant. It's about performance, reliability, and support.
But let's humor this analogy a little bit... TDC is no Rolex either. Rolex continues to innovate in its small niche space, has a very clear market positioning (vs. the Casios for example), and they don't go crazy buying other small watch companies either. Meh.
