Topics regarding layoffs at ExxonMobil Corp.

This is not the company I joined 25 years ago

Exxon was a cautious, serious company, dedicated to long term employees. Sure, a__l retentive at times, but processes, safety and integrity were non-negotiable and most people, technical and management, were not monkeys. Over time, with the... — read more

Why a High Performer would be PIP'd this year

Taken straight from a document. English isn't perfect because this looks like it's a performance feedback training for supervisors in Asia. Sam has been in company 25 years, and has been on current role for more than 5 years. He is very... — read more

What’s the benefit for Exxon? Not giving proper severance to retirees? Saying there are no “layoffs” publicly?

It’s just not clear to me how the shadiness of this all seems such a big oversight to XOM - now there are even leaked audios from the article that just came out. Besides the financial benefit of saving the proper severance money that would go to all... — read more

What do YOU want?

How about perspectives...we are all in only 2 categories. Category 1:employed. Category 2: Not employed, either by force or choice. If we are or were forced out by XOM or any company, we cannot let that define our value. Next perspective is WHY. I’m... — read more

PIPed, vs 3 month of pay, vs forced resignation

I have been seeing that some people were offered a PIP, 3 months of pay, or to retire. I have been seeing others were told to resign or be fired. Any idea why some recieved a PIP option or 3 months while Others were told to hit the road?

Any DPCs out there?

I am near retirement eligible and I was offerred "Documented Performance Counseling", which I suppose is a PIP without calling it one - a way to avoid age discrimination lawsuits. I was not offered another option (severance, bridging to retirement... — read more

Survey of People Let Go

Wanted to point folks to an older post for an informal demographic survey: https://www.thelayoff.com/t/15Uol3nC As an engineer at heart, I want to see the data behind this "performance based" layoff and unfortunately, the only way we can do... — read more

Disillusioned

I have been contemplating this for a while now & am not sure how what is happening should be viewed. Is it a lack of ethics? Is it a moral issue? I just cannot put my finger on it. All I do know is that it is wrong on so many different levels. What... — read more

Are we a better company than it was a year ago?

Is there anybody here who can identify anything positive to come out of all the changes that have been implemented in the past year? Anything that you could point to and say, yes this is much better and it's made us a better organization than we... — read more

PIPed over 40...Take the package

The majority of those who were PIPed were meeting their business objectives so managers force you to believe you are an issue. If you were smart enough to question your ranking, you were treated like a criminal up for parole. The ploy is to force you... — read more

Flat Organization - Supervisors and Middle Management

Does ‘courage of conviction’ get you PIPed?

Anyone PIPed for challenging management or being outspoken? Two people I know personally who have been PIPed are vocal in their support of sustainability and tackling climate change. Is this a trend?

New Hires-Similar Experience?

I was asked to resign or be terminated with one week’s notice. They classified me as NSI for a reason entirely out of my control, and only assessed my performance during training, not my contribution to my team, which had just begun at the start of... — read more

Changes

I keep hearing about lots of changes before the end of the year. Does anybody know or has anyone heard rumor of what any of the so called changes are? Just curious what has been said on the street

EM Headcount

I expect headcount at XOM to drop from 76k (2019) to 68k by 2022. Field/asset sales, PIP, lower hiring, normal retirments plus people encouraged to retire, plus lower pay raises and promotions may get even good performers to look elsewhere. Note... — read more

Former Employee: “Keep your heads up”
