The PIP is not guaranteed to last 3 months.
They can choose to end it during any of the scheduled reviews along the way. After a week it can be deemed not sufficient performance has been improved ie not in the right track, and therefore one can be immediately terminated.
The risk/reward profile of PIP and PIL are non-commensurate

You will not receive an additional 12 weeks of severance. It’s a gamble at best. If you feel the PIP is not going your way during the last week, you can resign vs being terminated. You will lose the the paid days off though.

The PIP is a trap. It is designed to document failures. These failures are then used as "Cause for Termination".

This CEO is a lying sack of sh–. They are forcing people out who have 20 years with the company who are disabled, but not retirement eligible. These employees will lose their medical insurance ASAP, will not be able to draw their pension for years, and likely will not be employable because disabled. They are breaking the law and they figure they can get away with it because the economy is tanking. It was in the plans since April and the CEO says in May no layoffs. F—ing liar. And yet his compensation and other executive compensation did not decrease. I feel sorry for the loyal, hard working employees who are getting tagged for the botton 8% without any clue in advance.

If you take PIP and get kicked out, you will probably get the same 12 weeks severance. They will want to buy your rights to sue, it's a lot of laws out there that a regular employee does not know about. It's cheap insurance for them.

Play the PIP lottery I say!

Exxon will not contest your unemployment benefits, all options are ok. Good luck. Many good people gone. Don’t sign till the last day possible so u can get paid for those days.

Copied from another company’s lay-off site:

If you signed a SEPARATION AGREEMENT agreeing not to sue do not list it as severance. Its incentive money. Even though it is listed as 3 months severance.

From TWC Site

Incentive money, i.e., money paid to secure an employee's agreement not to file claims or lawsuits, is not regarded as severance pay for unemployment claim purposes and will not affect unemployment benefits.

None. You have no options for unemployment.
