The End

To the CEO: Matt, set your ego aside. It's time to give all the faithful employees (who you don't deserve) a healthy separation package and sell. You're done. You were done years ago. Do the right thing.

Company on Its Last Legs

Appian was once a thriving company that had pega in a lawsuit, and enough Salesforce replacement in the pipeline to last forever. The last 2 years leadership has made the most ignorant decisions that’s left morale through the floor, its own partner... — read more

No need to stay at Appian

I've wasted six years of my life there working for a boss who had no management skills and in a completely dysfunctional team dynamics. I was exhausted both mentally and physically all the time. I left at the start of the year and I never regretted... — read more

Layoffs info

Hi all - yes 170 people were let go. The entire SDR organization, it's managers, the sales team in California, and the entire mid-market team. Marketing was gutted, as well as the SC Orgs. Could be more. I was personally affected and we will be... — read more

Another 500 by the end of the year?

More to come at the end of Q3 with deeper cuts to sales and more management layers going. Mike has been given CRO status with the objective to get to profitability by the end of the year so the only way he can do that is cut more cost. Sorry but more... — read more

Too many people let go

We got lucky, but I know a team that was halved. Those who have not been affected are panicking because they have no idea what to expect from the future. I fully understand them. Are they going to be expected to do all the work by themselves? Are... — read more

CRO OUT FINALLY

Seems Mr. Jones is out. After more than a year of no strategy since he had no clue about how to transform the business. Bring in new people, shrink groups that got it and were productive. The next group to go if the board had ba--s would be to... — read more

Gradual Reductions

In line with Appian's recent round of marketing layoffs, leadership is taking a more subtle approach to decreasing employee count by increased "performance improvement plans" (PIPs) for sales and other divisions. It is suspected by many that this is... — read more

Has Bob Kramer been reported to HR? Are employees still afraid to say something?

This Quarter's Layoffs

Has anyone heard when this quarter's layoffs will happen? I'm trying to decide whether to look for a new job now or after the holidays. That d-mb little manifesto Matt published will surely be used to justify whatever pointless cuts they do next. — read more

Sinking Ship - Fast

The sales organization is failing, completely. As mainly a Federal contractor (90% of their business is from the Federal Government), Appian seems to think that overlaying their federal solutions to state government and commercial verticals will... — read more

CEO stepping into the CRO's stuff

The CEO sent an email on July 7th announcing he was going to take action into his own hands to right the mess in the sales group. Since he has no sales skills this should be interesting. The CRO is on his way out. Going to bring in a new person... — read more

Constant lying to employees…

They lie to us because for them we are just a number. If they say there will be no more layoffs, they cannot be trusted. But what's the purpose of lying? It just demotivates employees even more.

It feels like more

I know some are saying that 96 people were laid off, but it feels like more for some reason. Where did the number come from? Was there a notice from the management that I missed? I admit, yesterday wasn't a good day for me so it's possible. It... — read more

Are you satisfied with the severance package?

I'm curious if the people who were affected recently are satisfied with the severance package that was provided. I know being laid off is far from ideal, but to be honest, with decent severance I wouldn't mind all that much. It would help me get a... — read more

More layoffs

There was another "reorganization" today in the marketing division where they let go several people, including all but one member of the website department. Were other departments affects as well? Leadership continues to flatly deny that these are... — read more

Criteria they used

I feel for everyone who is affected. What frustrates me the most is the non-transparency of the management. What was the criteria used when deciding which employees will be laid off? Some say that the main target were those who have not been here... — read more

Can we relax or are there more cuts to come?

This is an example of poorly managed layoffs! Some of those who were cut are struggling to understand the logic behind these cuts because their performance was cited as the reason and they were actually good performers. Others who are not... — read more

Why were layoffs not announced?

Everything seems to be happening behind smoke and mirrors here. I know of some people who were laid off, but the layoffs were not announced.

Appian acquired

Heard through the grapevine that Appian is getting acquired by CRM, is this true? I tend to doubt it is.

Nothing new to add here - there are no layoff updates with Appian - still growing. We'll see what happens in 2018.
