Post and Reply IDs

  • Every thread has a unique thread ID (example: +1k3kRc0B2)
  • The Original Poster (OP) always shows as @OP+threadID
  • Each reply gets its own post ID with a short prefix (example: @az+1k3kRc0B2)
  • The suffix after the + matches the thread ID, so all replies in a thread share it
  • You can reference someone by typing their Post ID (example: @az+1k3kRc0B2 or just @az if inside the same thread)

Formatting Basics

Use these symbols to format text:

*word* = bold
**word** = italic
`word` = code block
~~word~~ = strikethrough
> quote or indent
- bullet list

  1. numbered list
Four minus signs will draw a horizontal line like this:

Hashtags also work, example: #formatting or #markdown

Rules / Mods / Admins

  • Mods/admins exist but stay silent
  • Posts may be deleted for:
    • Personal names
    • Swearing, insults, politics, race/gender/identity attacks
    • Off-topic spam or trolling
  • Threads or all posts from a user can be removed
  • IPs and some VPNs are blocked (TOR often doesn’t work)
  • Smaller VPN providers usually work
  • Best practice: stick to layoff-related content and don’t post names

I apologize. It’s an asterisk that gives you italics #formatting

Ok, I guess that #formatting trick only works for ~one~ word at a time. ~Or maybe I confused it with three tildas in a line~.

I’ve been wondering how prr we poke have been able to do the fancy #formatting I tread here about it:

https://www.thelayoff.com/h/formatting

For example, starting and ending a string with a tilda (~) will ~give yo italics~

You can refer to each other by using post IDs, like this: @yji+Hvp8o8F or this @yji,
You can link a thread like this: +Hvp8o8F or this @OP+Hvp8o8F
You can link a forum board like this: /intel
#tags also work

Also, this site supports text #formatting using #markdown protocol. This is how it works:

Quote/indent: To make a quote, begin a line with “greater than sign” ( > )
Looks like this:

Quote

Bullets: To create a bullet, begin a line with a dash ( - ) or asterisk ( * )
Looks like this:

  • apple
  • pear

Numbering works as well

  1. First item
  2. Second item

Bold/italic: Start and finish a string with an asterisk ( * ) to make it bold - two asterisks to make it italic.
bold or italic

Tick-mark/code-block: ( ` ) at the beginning and end of word or a string will turn it into a 'code-block' code-block

Two (``) at the beginning and end of a word give this monospace

Two (~~) before and after a word give strikethrough strikethrough

Think that's it.

Sorry for adding this here but it appears I have to make a post in a normal thread for it to show up under the #formatting hashtag.

I didn't see a strikethrough option but two tildes (~) before and after a block of text will result in a strikethrough like this text is no longer valid.

Can refer to each other by using post IDs, like this @11cQ7Die-axe or this @axe .

If you plan to stick around for June layoffs, here is a tip

It looks like layoffs.com supports text formatting using markdown protocol. Lets keep things tidy.

  • INDENT: A > at the beginning of a line will indent things or quote it.

  • BULLETS: A dash at the start of a line will create a bullet.

  • BOLD/ITALIC: Start and finish a string with an underscore ( _ ) to make it bold - two underscores to make it italic.

#formatting

Finally, a tickmark ( ` ) at the beginning and end if a string will turn into a 'code-block', try it it's cool

@1mvi, you can quote something by adding greather-than symbol ( > ) at the beginning of a line you wanna quote.

You can reference to someone’s post by adding @ before Post ID, like previous poster and I did (first few characters represent the thread ID, last three are for the post within a thread, so @1mvi works within this thread only, and @Vq4qioA-1mvi works here and on other threads as well).

You can also do some other formatting - bold, italic, bullets and numbering also work.

Can check how by visiting posts in these hashtags #formatting #text #markdown

@qat - i googled two words: formatting and thelayoff and got a link to #formatting (or follow this path: https://www.thelayoff.com/h/formatting

they use markdown to allow formatting, we are using it too for ISSP - standard markdown formatting
