The Big Question for Management

So much talk about case for change and unsustainable cost structure to justify these layoffs yet I have seen absolutely no plan or willingness from management to reduce the amount of non value add work which is the real problem. Even when pressed in... — read more

I wish I was born into my parents' generation

People who are able to retire right now did not have to deal with half of the stuff we have to deal with. In the last couple of decades we went through several financial crises, a drastic increase of H1B visas, massive outsourcing, and to top it all... — read more

Are the 20 people that are getting let go at several different plants or at one plant? When will this occur?

Laid off vs NSI - Which would you rather have?

Would y’all prefer to be part of the December involuntary leaves or be NSI’d and put on PIL/PIP in July? Both have their pros and cons I’d imagine. Lay off you at least have some dignity since it wasn’t solely your performance, but nothing like... — read more

If you are laid off, do you accrue 2021 vacation?

If you are given lay off notice on Dec 1st, do you accrue vacation in 2021 and are paid that amount at termination? If yes, Do you accrue full year vacation or only prorated for January (as Feb 1 will be date of termination).

How will notice be given?

Anyone know how notice will be given? Email? In person? Text? Automated phone call? Zoom meeting? Mass meeting?

Terminator

Why do we use the euphemisms they push on us? “Right-sizing”, the “way we work”, and now the appointed “Communicators”. They are terminating people, not communicating. It’s not a two way conversation, it’s a lay-off. We are not in this... — read more

Managers telling who is safe

I have heard of two instances of folks that their managers have told them, they are definitely NOT a candidate for layoffs. In other words, they already put together the list of who is a YES and a NO, just waiting to wrap up the numbers of the... — read more

How to volunteer out the door

So I’m mid career and find myself falling out of love with @XOM. I know lots of ppl want to stay so it seems strange that there is no system already in place to identify ppl who are like me willing to go.

Career Connect data was pulled on October 1.

This was confirmed by our VP today in a forum. They pulled CC data for the lay-off assessment on Oct 1. Interestingly, HR sent an email on Sept 1 telling us to update CC by mid October. To say I’m feeling boned is an understatement.

Has anybody taken stress leave at Exxon?

Is it even possible to get approved for it? I'm not talking about the usual job-related stress, but the kind that causes me insomnia and has put me on beta-blockers. Not all of it is work-related, but having no job security and anticipating possibly... — read more

First Year w the company. Fight or flight?

Joined the company around the end of 2019. Gave up good prospects in other industries to join EM, only to be hit by incoming work increase, increment freezes and 401k dropped. Went ahead to apply elsewhere and offered an equivalent in a decent... — read more

Selling a house in former oil boom town

Signs that you are being laid off

12 or more days to go before I know if I am impacted. I would prefer to know sooner than later. After Nov 20th, I assume your department head would know if you are being laid off. Any signs to look for that indicate you are being laid off?

Exxon hires smart people and make them dumb

Being a former XoM employee, I wouldn't advise anyone to start a career at ExxonMobil. You will not get any transferable experience. I have friends in supervisory roles they dont have a clue of what their subordinates do. Exxon hires smart people... — read more

ExxonMobil is Like a Rich Abusive Partner

Most of you are being abused and yet you cannot leave as you have been brainwashed into submission and tied to the fat paycheck. The world has pity on you

Millennial long term plans?

Are there any 30 year olds that see a long term career with Exxon as a possibility much less an enjoyable one? If so, what am I missing? Not exaggerating that I don’t know a single 5 year employee in my EMRE/GP circle that likes Exxon or wants to... — read more

Quietly ended educational refund program

I went to apply for the educational refund program just to see that it’s been “paused.” I am so disheartened by exxon. I joined the company three months ago and already I have experienced a massive layoff, removal of 401(k) matches and I can’t be... — read more

EM destroys technical careers

I’ve only been with the company for 2 years and I’ve realized how many great technically minded people get put into glorified coordinator type roles. Our technology ecosystem is also so behind the curve. My colleague who graduated the same time... — read more

This feels like c-ap

Spring Campus to be leased out to other companies

I heard that Spring campus could be reduced to 33% only for ExxonMobil and 67% leased out to other companies and offices. Many working from home and many laid off, this sounds a logical idea.

What's everyone’s exit strategy?

I have at least a year of salary saved up and while I’m not at the age of retirement (not even early) I am still looking to leave EM. I know others are looking to leave and have a strategy of their own. Do you mind sharing it? I am not sure how much... — read more

Exxonmobil service quality has gone way down. They outsource jobs to low cost countries oversea, and it seems like the oversea worke

It seems the oversea workers are not trained properly to do their job. One example is the poor to non-existence services in the area of HR. We follow instructions on their (XOM) website, to request for employment verification. We contacted the... — read more
