Topics regarding layoffs at IBM

IBM and going forward

Does IBM management understand that its future depend on how it performs in the cloud computing and how it manages its workforce/talent? I see an issue where IBM will need to offer large discounts to customers in a bid to retain market share. To be... — read more

Red Hat deal has closed

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/ibm-closes-34-billion-deal-123544178.html Some real chucklers in there: "Underscoring the drive into high-margin businesses, IBM in October agreed to buy Red Hat" 12% is high margin? "Since 2013, IBM’s cloud revenue as... — read more

This is getting out of hand

Working at IBM has turned into more of a chore than I ever expected. I used to love my job. Now, there is so much uncertainty, frustration, stress, politics.... I'm not sure which is worse and which is affecting my health more. Sometimes it feels... — read more

Legal immigration via IT

The number of foreign-born IT workers in the U.S. is simply astonishing. Is it fair to allow companies a fairly free hand in bringing in resources, when many native-born Americans end up losing their jobs and opportunities to them? I keep hearing the... — read more

It is possible

I got tired of waiting for IBM to lay me off due to my age, so I decided to leave on my own. I am 55 and I managed to find a new job relatively quickly. Pay is slightly lower, but benefits are better and from what I can see, work environment is ten... — read more

Who’s Winning Over the Big Tech Spenders

Unfortunately for some, the cloud’s rise is taking mind share away from old technology stalwarts. IBM (IBM) and Oracle (ORCL) were most at risk of losing business from the big technology buyers, the J.P. Morgan survey found. Both vendors had negative... — read more

Cloud as Z-Series Competitor

The competition for z-series is increasingly in the cloud. Many companies are using cloud for computing roles that would previously have been performed by a mainframe. There is a constant flow of new software innovation to be deployed on cloud... — read more

Services Layoffs

Bumping this from one of the subthreads... Sorry OP... Layoffs is services are related to 2 things. The Redhat acquisition and the profit margin of the services that you provide. Being in GTS or GBS has nothing to do with it. If your job overlaps... — read more

IBM CIO Focuses on User Experience to Keep Staff Happy

Recent layoff only in GTS or GBS?

it was confirmed that recent layoff occurred in GTS? Can someone from GBS confirm same or separate RA's for GBS coming soon?

Dumbed down - now up!

I was RA'd last year. For some reason my head is now clearer than ever. I was IQ 140+ when joining and still am. But clarity of thought now is much better than when in IBM. It's like a veil has been lifted. Maybe I was clouded by those around me? I... — read more

Too big to fail

I've been reading over these forums for the past few months and I'd have to agree most of you do not fully understand business and finance... IBM will live on, I'm sorry that bothers many of you. A resurrection of IBM would be terrific. If I thought... — read more

Year over year compares are looking terrible. More cuts coming in the US in 2019 Every business unit down with Systems the worst. The Red Hat purchase will help obfuscate the numbers, but strategic imperatives have stopped growing.

Farewell Ya'll

I've accepted an offer from another company last Friday... I feel like a weight has been lifted. Dealing with the constant dread/stress of looming RAs and uncertainty was just way too much for me. I wish ya'll the best out there!

The future of service of IBM Hardware is in peril!

Lenovo has pulled out because service division does not have enough people to repair laptops, desktops and keep up with logo business. It is insane that customers pay for a premium service and wait weeks to get it due to layoffs and the shifting of... — read more
