Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Quiet layoffs by stress

It really feels like they’re trying to push people to quit instead of laying them off outright. The pressure constantly keeps building, workloads keep piling up, and eventually you just can’t take it anymore. As far as strategies go, I have to give them credit. This is the cheapest way of getting rid of us.

Unethical treatment and systems have been going on at least since I left eight years ago. Looking back it probable started at least ten years ago and ramped up in 2017 as all the office closures and moves to hubs and consolidation was in full swing. The betrayal can physically change and harm you long term. The unreasonable work loads and artificial stress takes a toll. There is life after SF and not all work places are like this. Many of my former coworkers went to other carriers and found much better work environments. Even after eight years I am still recovering from the physical long term harm. I have forgiven myself for allowing myself to put up with it for too long but I still get mad about it occasionally. The fall out from betrayal of hardworking and loyal employees, the loss of wellbeing, depression and sadness, the damage done by prolonged stress is not to be under estimated. It takes time to heal, forgive, and reignite happiness, joy and trust.

Good luck everyone. Don’t let others take advantage unreasonably and don’t sacrifice so much you miss out on time with family and hurt your own health and well being.

@17f A 50 week for me was a gift before all the timecard BS. Today CS is saved by timecard. They do everything they can to avoid a lawsuit. None are to be trusted with anything. They are no longer a career organization who respects its workers. If I were the Rusts, I'd be ashamed of the monster the company has become. Sad!

@km as a TM for awhile I make good $, however the work hours are terrible and you end up with much more expected time to work than if you were owed OT. A lot of “project work” that is just your evenings (and no reward). I don’t think I have worked under 50 hrs a week in years and most weeks are higher. When I started the units were small and you could really make a difference. Now we have 11 - 13 each team. Not sustainable and I am sure they would like me to quit so they don’t have to pay me. So sad what is being valued now. AI will not replace the experience and they are going to learn the hard way. In another thread someone noted WFH being phased out, just another way to get people to quit without any dirty hands. Sad what is going on.

I've been with SF about 14 years. I was a P6 BI CS and got promoted to TM around two years ago. I was working about 3-4 hours of OT a week as a CS. I took a Property-Complex TM job and I will make about $15K less than I did my last year as CS! I work about 50-60 hours a week and it is a worse job than being an injury rep! Now maybe at the SM or CM level that can be a true statement but not for most when you break down the number of hours TMs work. Most employees struggle to get in their 38:45....

@OP they've been doing this for a while now, I'm surprised when it takes people this long to catch on. I would say the last 6 months is when it started getting really bad, but I think a year ago is when I first heard TMs are getting threatened by their SMs that the TMs will get written up, and I can verify it's only gotten worse. Even TMs who aren't performing bad are getting threatened

@dt Doesn't that say something about your leadership? OR Does it say something about how they lie for their own benefit? Trust and integrity at State Farm does not exist among the thieves and liars!

Several managers have said this is the plan. Many of them hate to see their employees treated this way. It’s coming from higher up

Keep hearing we need everyone but been doing 2 jobs for years with no relief in site. I think they are trying to stress and burn everyone out.

It’s an awful and unethical thing to do. Even more so because if you tell your manager you suspect this is what is up they’ll gaslight and say we need everyone.
