Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

Ah yes, the offshore model. So efficient. So cheap.

Execution is offshore.
Accountability is onshore.
Answers are expected instantly — from US leaders — even when the work is “handled” elsewhere.

So if leadership asks a question and you don’t know because the team is offshore? That’s your problem. Which means US folks quietly become backup, escalation, translator, and babysitter… on top of their real jobs.

Meanwhile:
• India and Mexico are on holiday (again).
• US teams keep things moving (as usual).
• Offshore teams won’t engage unless you’re senior enough.
• And somehow there’s monthly travel to the US with no agenda, no outcomes, just vibes.

But don’t worry — it’s “saving money.”

No one seems to track:
• US leadership overhead
• Context switching and rework
• Travel costs
• Decision delays

If the US is still accountable, always on, and filling every gap…
are we actually saving money — or just calling it offshoring and hoping no one does the math?

Cost cutting is an immediate impact to the bottom line. Issues and suffering through are not quantified as easily. The easy way out is to do the cost cut.

@eh there no roi. They are pumping Indians for on onshore. Productive has completely tanked. Plus leadership outsourcing even core systems to friends owned software network. Indians and corruption runs hand in hand.

Spot on! The amount of Sr Leader travel alone should be a line item for audit that would surely open some eyes! So many of the leaders in the US are Indian so they look the other way when there are offshore holidays. But before offshoring existed, US workers covered on call for US holidays. Yet the same doesn’t apply now. Hmmm. It feels like for every one worker laid off in the US, more than one offshore worker is hired. This doesn’t feel like we are saving any money at all. Where will the ROI show up? It’s been long enough that we should be seeing it! Leadership should be shouting from the rooftops how great offshoring is and be showing how much money we’ve saved so that we can all get on board and ride the train in celebration with them! Have I missed that announcement?

So true, and even I'm sure management will be thinking about this while sipping cocoa by day and wine by night in Davos.

@OP This is so accurate. All this offshoring yet the leaders can show zero ROI!

100% accurate. As they continue to keep me is a payroll type role off shoring is so GREAT. I create tickets, the. they do some sort of audit for me to tell them the correct position or pay. If they followed the directions the first time, there would be no audit or issues with pay.
