Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Whats wrong with DXC

Both the last CEO and the current one are below par. They then swamp the company with poor Execs like Drum, Rusl Jokes and Grey who just re invent different plans used before.

The next layers are full of Brocklehurst who are just yes men who processes and paperwork to stop real progress.

The managers below are just tickboxes for the Brocklehurst level.

All focus remains on cost cutting and wind down which they are good at.

This has been the strategy for the last 10 years.

Until they get someone who has done growth and investment in Employees the company will not change.

I wrote a very detailed article explanation on what’s wrong with DXC in a post from a year or two ago. Having been on the inside of DXC and very senior person who routinely met all financial and employee goals when I worked there, I have had very good insight. The biggest consequence of bad leadership is it can’t grow. Many reasons for that, some already reflected by others. In short, the executive leadership is in a bubble. They do not have a real view of the company. M2 understood the mess M1 created and started to fix the internal systems mess, and get the company to profitable. But his ego got in the way and he alienated employees. The head of HR was in a bubble with him. The CFO didn’t help the situation. There are some parts of the company doing okay and some of employee locations with a favorable view. This masks the problem. They are the low cost locations that the company has over invested in. They spend so much those locations that the costs have increases. The reality has been that they have no actual strategy that will lead to positive growth. They just repeat old plans randomly and expect things to improve. They expect potential clients to listen to them when they themselves won’t listen. Just a continuous death spiral.

They expected to have had this place chopped up and sold for parts by now, which they have failed to do. So they put in leaders who could do that not leaders who can run this business.

They only thing they are trying to do now is get the stock price back up so they can get the valuation they want. They are going to fail at that as well.

@fr competent management. No way you're getting away with sitting there doing nothing at CG, CC or BT.

We don't have enough timekeeping systems.

@dy Same job, less DXC bureaucracy. Probably same pay, same WFH arrangements unless you live in Preston. What changes?

@dy A side hustle done well is something you can put as much or as little effort into as time allows. It doesn't have to be exclusively in day job hours. They require dedication and effort. Often evenings and weekends too. But it certainly can fill the hours, days, weeks even of time spent waiting for BAE and others to approve something or return information that allows progress. It's like any hobby, just that it makes money rather than drains it.

What happens to all the DXC side hustlers on the BAE account when you get TUPEd? Back to reality boys.

It spells “strategy” as “fantasy”. Right?

@bz

Too many engineers with side hustles

That's a consequence. Not a cause. Learn the difference.

@bz But what work exactly is there to be done. I tried to add value, and was told I couldn't put any of it live because the client hadn't formally requested it, so they weren't going to test it, and certainly weren't going to pay for it.

The clients we work with are so risk adverse. They would rather the system be offline than ever agree to put something live that might break it.

We started running side hustlels because we got bored. DXC is a part time job. If you ask what needs doing all they can think of is more status reports. Pointless busy work!!!

It doesn't matter. The goal of the company is not to be a leader or anything like that. It's supposed to be a safe bay to drain money. They have a lot of government contracts, so no matter what they do or won't do - they are covered, DXC will never be allowed to fail as it is "strategic company". Meanwhile there are some contracts with private sectors for additional revenue. Then, some people got shares, bonuses and other payments.

These people are not "stupid", no matter how it may look like. Employees are expendable, no need to build any working culture, nor take care about people. There is nothing "wrong" per se. It's working exactly, as it was designed to work. Spice will flow anyway.

Too many engineers with side hustles instead of doing their jobs.
