Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Leadership comes and goes, but nothing changes

Toxicity, bad management, questionable practices, all of it remains. The only thing that actually moves is the downward spiral.

I’m tuning into the earrings this week for some solid entertainment. Maybe I’ll breakout my buzzword bingo card. What smoke will they try and blow up my a-s this week?

Correct, it is MLR avoidance as well as a way to move revenue to an entity that is not regulated by state governments.

Carelon is just a financial trick to allow Elevance to be a customer of Elevance and write 💩 off and get around the MLR. It doesn’t matter if it is actually useful to anyone, that’s not it’s purpose.

CarelonRx is built on a competitor’s system. So yeah, sh-tshow city population = us!

@at
your comment about Carelon being a “s**t show” honestly made me laugh because there’s definitely truth to it.

If you break it down, Carelon has these key divisions:
• Carelon Behavioral Health (formerly Beacon Health Options)
• CarelonRx (the pharmacy benefit manager)
• Carelon Services (clinical and digital solutions)
• Carelon Health (value-based and complex care)

If we are being candid and ranking them from worst to best, I’ll just call out what I think is the weakest link: legacy Beacon, now Carelon Behavioral Health. That organization has some serious structural and talent issues. It feels like the problems run top to bottom, leadership, culture, execution, and it probably needs a significant reset.

From a profitability standpoint, CarelonRx is likely the strongest performer, given how profitable the PBM space tends to be. I’m less certain about how the other divisions stack up financially or operationally.

They need to offload CGS - sell 80%, contract it back from a vendor, and use the capital to invest in core services / health benefits.

Are you taking about Careless - they have always been all about inaction and deflection - no sense of urgency and no sense period

Carelon is a complete sh*t show from top to bottom. It has been since it's inception. I don't know if MK can make a go of it but someone other than PH definitely needs to try. If it isn't turned around, and quickly, Carelon will be the downfall of Anthem/Elevance.
