I’ve worked in banking and in and finance for 40 years and I have seen this time and time again from major financial institutions. BNY believes that AI is the future and it will make them more efficient and reduce costs along the way. Huge investors are betting and taking short positions against AI as the bubble is widely recognised as being likely to burst soon. It does not deliver all the things big banks like BNY think it does. Meanwhile in the pursuit of cost savings leaders, team members and people across the business with years of experience and knowledge and networks leave the business to be replaced by graduates with none of these things. The short term gains will be offset but long term pain when the lack of these staff and their experience starts to bite. One day these big banks will learn from their mistakes who knows when that will be.
