Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

What happens when over 50% of the jobs are gone?

Looks like the US is heading into a collapse over the next decade with the relentless jobs being lost due to H1B visas Ofdshoeing and AI.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we see over 50% of white collar jobs completely gone over the next 5 years.

This is a real SHTF scenario and most people still have their heads up their as--s when it comes to this

H1B jobs are inside US. But now with 100k fee I guess not much H1B will be applied.

@ss I recall that the entire call center in Romania was canned last year, and those people are low paid.

What will happen? You will be thrilled to land a job that pays a fraction of what you make now. That's what will happen.

Layoffs are happening in Mexico, Morocco, India, Philippines - this is ain't about H1B - this is culling of the whole technology industry

There’s going to be a massive wave of foreclosures over the next 10 years. 50-60 million Americans will refuse to leave their homes and the entire system will collapse. Now is probably a good time to get a 30 year fha loan if you haven’t yet and you can make it to that massive foreclosure wave

It won't just be tech jobs affected. A lot of white collar office jobs will be obliterated by automation. A lot of menial jobs as well. Automatons can stock shelves in grocery stores.

Musk says no worries, that we will all get generous UBI stipends. Call me skeptical.

LE: “ H1Bs and L1 transfers (with fake degrees) never face layoffs; US citizens in the mean time spent over $200k for a college education and get replaced “

@ad You are totally right. It's greed and worrying about stock prices and their investors.

H1B and other visas, I recently found out are being paid less than Americans. I saw some people say on various sites that if there was legislation that forced companies to pay H1B and other visa holders same as Americans, then problem may be solved. I can't see Congress doing that though.

@OP This 50% tech layoff is part of bigger game. Many people started saying Tech salary will go down etc.. reality is , its all about helping big tech who are political donors to single party in DC.

It's all about demand and supply. If you cut supply by 25% but demand by 200%, you will have deflation. this is what happening. Every one is held as hostage. Offshore is there to make sure inflation will not go up. basically they want H1b and other temp work visa folks wages look good so petitions are approved easily. there is only and easy way is to make local wages depressed so they can easily bring in h1b and others with lower rates. Until they successful with this game, they will keep offshore so no one escape and feel pain.

u know what, existing h1b holders are the one who are feeling more pain. Basically who live in high cost of living cities, no matter h1b or US citizen, feeling extreme stressful life.

Americans will be poor, demand for consumer goods will fall. The economy will be slow, and job creation with decent salaries will be minimal.

What happens when over 50% of the jobs are gone?

There was an interesting thread on this a week or two ago here.

The answer is that US tech salaries are about to drop like a rock. Should have left tech long ago, but it's never too late.

@ad @ad Outsourcing and job cuts have been going on for decades - shareholders demand fat profits every quarter and CEO pay is based on short term results. AI is going to replace low cost centers as well - tokens are cheaper.

A bunch of US based accounting functions are getting prepared to be offshored. Beware when you start training colleagues in cheaper labor markets/countries to "help" you or your team. Your days are numbered when this starts. I am hoping to hang in there until RSUs vest, then rif me!

@aa office work is cooked, invest in equipment now and learn how to get paid by strangers. applicant to posting ratio is about to go bo-m. "apply harder" is dead in 2026.

It won't just be in the US. In less than 75 years the population of the planet has nearly tripled. It is just not sustainable. We are nearing breaking points in being able to generate enough resources from the planet in several areas. Look how much impact is happening from just a few weeks disruption in fuel from the middle east. If you think that you will be able to survive living in a huge metro area guess again. Start learning how to grow your own food. If you own a house you should have a garden, no joke.
