Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

We are drowning in work

I'm so burnt out that I'm ready to ask for a spot on the next list. The strategy of slashing headcount to boost profits and never looking back is not sustainable.

Yup .. you’re right it’s not … and lol they don’t care … they will continue forward . He will get his bonus … the board members will extract their wealth from the company when the stick reaches the top by selling off all their shares and then retire … the company will be a shell of what it once was .

Is it too late to volunteer for this round? Do I talk to my AD or the next level up?

Wanna hear the best part? The revenues they expect to see ( Profits ) from AI will never materialize at the rate they keep cutting jobs. They need consumers to BUY their products and services but the better AI becomes— the more jobs it will eliminate. The more jobs eliminated, the less consumers that have money to spend on AI products or services. Companies will NEVER recover their investments on AI infrastructure just like VZ didn’t convince people to spend more money on their 5G service. At some point it will become Apparent that consumers aren’t willing to spend and they ( Companies) will NEVER recover their TRILLIONS in investment Capital. We already saw this happen with 5G and look at Verizon now. Layoff after Layoff after #Layoff.

The condescending BS from Dan-I-can-drink-coffee and Sam-I-have-no-empathy and the rest of the crew.
Moral is terrible and it will get worse after the announcements Mon/Tue and then the RIF next week.
No company ever shrunk itself to growth. But our highly compensated LeaderShit doesn't care.

I really hope you're meeting your team's metrics for the sake of your boss's bonus. Er, I mean for the customer. The customer.

@a3 sounds like you’re talking about AD level and above that sit around in meetings all day to “re-invent the wheel” every month only to justify their own existence. Everyone here now scrambling to keep their jobs and throw others under the bus.

Same, but I’d argue we still have a ton of people who sit in meetings all day and talk about the work that those of us whose teams keep getting impacted have to do.

AND** if you do get all the work done then you just proved to them that IT CAN GET DONE without all the Extra people ….. I remember seeing some of my colleagues online (logged in) at 11pm during the week, on a Saturday morning, on a Sunday afternoon to “catch up” with the work. So keep doing that and your Reward will be to get MORE WORK piled up on you and then a pittance of a raise that doesn’t even keep up with cost of living because your department or group didn’t meet “ all the Targets “. Wash, Rinse and Repeat.
