Mass furloughs are going to happen in Houston! Talk to your managers, train runner managers! The writing is on the walls. It’s going to be before the new machinist apprentices start. They’re hiring them as we speak! Both managers and tradesmen will be furloughed!

@a1 True Story
@141 Locomotive prices vary widely depending on the model and specifications, typically ranging from about $150,000 to $500,000 for older or used units, and much higher for new ones. Prices have been rising in part due to the increasing cost of metals like copper and other industrial materials.
A typical locomotive contains a small amount of gold—generally around 1.5 to 2 ounces—used in electronic components. Other metals such as copper and silver are also present in larger quantities and play a bigger role in overall material value.
It’s also worth noting that Class I railroads can receive financial incentives for operating newer, more efficient locomotives that meet EPA Tier 4 emissions standards. These programs encourage the use of cleaner engines and the retirement or reduced use of older, less efficient locomotives.
How much is a road locomotive worth for scrap metal ?
@mx BNSF does not pay more than UP.
BNSF TEY makes more than UP and doesn't do Jack nothing.

@fw BNSF TYE make more than UP hands down.
Maybe they will offer a 10k buyout for 55 and over, just like BNSF.
@a1 Bnsf runs very bad, they have too many employees and lick birkshires pickle hard. we make more money than them and know what we are doing. pretty bad a big investment company doesn't know how to run it at all. They should be making way more money than us. They should just give us their coal line so we can show them how its done.
Yet almost every train on the territory I work has had a major mechanical issue each day for the last week.
This place is a joke; Mainline derailments, locomotive failures, hot bearings, and break in two's all over the place. Bulk trains are run with one good lead engine and the rest are trash, manifest maxed out underpowered, and intermodal with junk power that does not make track speed. It's crazy to think they are cutting more mechanical.
Can you smell what the contractors are Cooking???????
Going to happen in more places than Houston.
Bnsf just furloughed 160 mechanical employees
