We are a family of 4, with 2 in elementary school assigned to go to ATL but I asked for Dallas and manager and VP were ok to Dallas with no confirmation from HR or ATS. I don’t have a choice except to move as I have single income. I am super scared of moving as there is no job guarantee after I move and could get surplused in a year as it happened to many people. I have tried for jobs since 3 years but did not land any. Was anybody in this situation where they chose one location over the assigned location? I live in a metro but still no jobs here

Never move for any company that expects you to pay the moving costs. Not valuing you enough to pay your moving expenses means they don't value you enough to keep you around. If the company has no investment in you then you are just toilet tissue. They have nothing to lose by laying you off the week you arrive.
@ab he’s only reason destroying his own because his under qualified and can’t find another job. So su-k it up loser
@aa you’re a pathetic cuck with no free will. I know everyone on your team hates you and thinks you’re a loser. Sad excuse for a human.
@dh everyone is waiting for it to die with Stank. Everybody knows there’s no point to RTO and hybrid is the standard. Anyone sticking around is just waiting for it to end, which it eventually will.
Why didn’t you use the last 4 years to make a backup plan after RTO was first announced?
RTO just showed people that they are under qualified. If they are cay, they can find a job somewhere else. Whoever stay because they are not qualified.
wah. life choices.
Is Charlotte better than Alpharetta for jobs? My friend is in the same boat, but heading to D instead.
@OP it’s a difficult situation but based your kids’ ages it’s not a bad time to try a new place. Dallas job market is good & likely will get even better with many companies moving their HW or setting up a 2nd presence in TX due to various incentives. Likewise Atlanta is a growing city with affordable housing in the outer suburbs-you’ll have to deal with a drive but maybe after a while you’ll seek employment elsewhere. If you can stay away from family for a while to check things at hub location, you can rent & try it out. But it’s summer break now and a good time to move the family.
We’d all laugh if you think your job is ever stable at AT&T so don’t be under any illusion that you move & your job is safe.
Know that you’ll find company of many others who have moved in similar circumstances in the last few years. Make your decision based on your family needs & prospects at hub vs current location. If you choose not to move, you’ll be fine as well. Use your friends & family network in your home town & find options that work for you. Make decisions, push through each challenge & stay positive. Good luck.
You should only choose a location based on if it works for you and your family.
If they pay for your move, you’re ok. If not, I’d assume the city you choose will be a city you will be jobless in.
Atlanta is heads and shoulders above Dallas on basically every level and I know people who have moved to Dallas on their own dime and are now miserable. They only stay employed thanks to internal job hopping and even then they want to leave.
I cannot for the life of me, understand this “ I don’t have a choice” mentality.
You always have a choice
No one cares
Hard truth - your job here is toast even if you move. Only you can answer whether you have any support system is Dallas for when that layoff comes - unless you move and bounce teams. Maybe see about finding another team internally if you want to stay where you are.
And btw Atlanta is a lot better than Dallas from a family and opportunities perspective.
Have them put it in writing. But of course, even in writing, the "needs of the business" can change in the future.
Tough spot for you. I'm glad my next step is retirement.
Honestly, it’s a tough decision. I’ve had to move several times due to surpluses by inverse seniority(I’m union) it stinks. The whole RTO thing is nonsense to all of us, but that’s besides the point. I traveled for work many times and while maintaining my residence in another city/state. You could rent a room during the week and possibly travel back and forth if it’s feasible. Frontier has an all you can fly pass where you pay $15 a flight and I used the heck out of it for several years until I got back home.
Maybe try out Dallas and continue to look for jobs in the meantime. Unfortunately the longer you are here it’s harder to leave because you get entrenched and starting off at half pay at another company with no vacation, pension, etc. is a tough pill to swallow.
Troll post.
@ac What shall I do? Is no one in my same shoes? I know plenty packed and moved, but they don’t have kids. The cost I am going to accrue is mental, personal and financial.
If HR knows that you prefer Dallas, they will go out of their way to give you Atlanta. The only time HR will ever do any work is to go out of their way to make your life more miserable. When you deal with these sycophants and sociopaths in HR, you almost have to use reverse psychology. Tell them you are dying to move to Atlanta because that’s where your family is and you’ve always wanted to be closer to them. Maybe even tell them you have a dying relative in Atlanta that you need to help take care of. They’ll keep you in Dallas for sure, then.
God, please help his family.. Why Stinky why? Look at the lives you are destroying. Cancel RTO..
Stop complaining about RTO. No one cares. Either show up to work or quit. Companies have the right to ask you to come to work. You can say no and leave.
