Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

March 2026 Layoff rumor

Does it have any legs?

Also heard that they are looking for volunteers. Bit confused.
If I express interest, then I am exposing my intent to the management which can easily put me in a PIP or find other reasons and kick me out.
If I keep quiet also it may happen but then I missed my chance of volunteering (and may be saving someone who needs the job). I am done with this org and have something else. But I do not want to lose my one-year of potential severance. That is a lot to leave it on the table

Any insight?

@6wd For everyone else reading I want to confirm what @6wd posted is exactly how it works. On top of that is the low hanging fruit like RTO violations, remote work, etc but @6wd is getting at how unethical BNY really is. Awful. I will add, legally challenge them. They have no capacity to fight back. Good luck to all still there!

Severance of 2 weeks a year is not guaranteed anymore. I am demanded to rate so many employees as below expectations or partially below even if they don’t deserve it. Also if a manager refuses to do so, they are put down as below for insubordination and a random person will still be chosen by a director. Once you have that rating you go on the list to be laid off at some point. Most of the time they offer you 12 weeks since they say you are rated as below so you don’t qualify for the full you are actually due. The other person definitely wasn’t telling a lie there. I have been seeing this happen way too often.

@a2 total lie. Stop stirring the pot.
Severance is still 2 weeks per year of service.

It can be a double-edged sword. I volunteered roughly a year ago and it finally happened in November. Got my year's severance and my pension but have heard of folks that weren't that lucky.

I heard layoffs will happen week of 2/23. You will receive two paychecks then will officially no longer be an employee in March and will receive your lump sum severance depending on years of service which is two weeks for every year maxing out at a year.

@a2 not everyone received severance in December. I was one of the unlucky parties.

@a2 there is so. It all depends on what your sr mgrs feel like offering

There is no severance anymore. People who were laid off in Dec will receive pay until 3/31, and that's it.
