@5tk probably true. But what about all the ethics training, annual compliance statement, putting People and Environment first? Is it all ok if the company next door does it too. Why bother with all these trainings? Remember people is our greatest asset! Let's pack them together next to alkylation unit!
@5sp IOL is not the only one do such things.
@5n3 yep worked at Boundary during that and remember still how they lectured us aboit not talking to the media etc. , had us all anxious about the fallout of this incident and then only having a paragraph article in the Dawson Creek paper. To this day I still wonder what kind of money was spent to keep it quiet?
Clearly none if you heard about the boundary lake leak back in 2012ish.
Was massive produced water leak, they had every vac truck available going to clean it up. The exxon spill strike team came up.
All that was ever heard was a small article in a local newspaper of a “pinhole leak” yet there was a large swath of land contaminated with produced water.
Bet they were happy to hand that off to whitecap
There was a time not that long ago that I would think it's absurd and impossible for the company to delay leak reporting/ mask events / sweep sh1ts under the rugs with all the culture, integrity and safety talks. But now I wouldn't be surprised. How we have changed in just under 10 years.
I remember there used to be false Leak Detection Alarms at Nabiye and the operators used to make a big fuss about going out to have to check for leaks.
Leak Detection is not an exact science for liquids but an approximation and dependent on scale of the leak for accurate detection, instruments and algorithms don't detect it well for smaller leaks due to approximation.
Make alarms extra sensitive and you get false alarms but they are detected correctly during an actual leak. Make them less sensitive and there aren't any false alarms but alarms during real leaks dont show up.
Guess they reduced the sensitivity to prevent false alarms and the leak detection alarms didn't shop up early enough due to mass balance approximation.
@dh at least it wasnt six to nine months like Kearls tailings pond. To play devils advocate, they have learned!
Bring in the low cost folks to mop up the bitumen. I’m sure it will be more cost effective than getting Canadian contractors. While they’re at it they can plant more trees.
It happened on April 9 but only made it to news on April 15. Did they try to suppress it?
It’s only the beginning
Don’t worry this is what happens when you lose the focus and concentrate on baseline. Other companies are not fools keeping their employees.
BTC can solve this they have the expertise! Imperial is going down the drain. They better sell it
Now that all the technical experts are leaving Imperial, I'm sure the GBC in Bangalore or KL will handle this type of stuff far better! #weareexxonmobil
