Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

@2tv That’s weird…because someone on one of these threads said only two (2) people were RIF’d.

I am speaking sarcastically, of course. I agree with you that many many people have been either laid off or pushed out of the organization the last couple of years. And this is occurring amongst all of the health insurance corporations.

Leadership just doesn’t want it to be largely known. And most employees are just trying to keep their head down and hope they will be fine. And for those who are pushed out, those that were very good workers and understood the business really well, nobody went to bat for them.

I happen to be one of those. To those good people still there, I wish them well. But for those who are just self serving, only thinking of themselves and lacking empathy or sympathy for others, well, I have no mercy for you.

That second group I speak of are probably still there because they are “yes” people that kiss up to leadership and take credit for other people’s hard work.

RIFd in batches of 200-300, happens often, and will continue thru the end of the year. Been going on for MONTHS.

I want a RIF or early retirement. I dream of it I fantasize about it . I would beg for it if I could. Humana has gone to he-l. This is a horrible place to work.

@a2 they may get around the WARN Act but still must follow federal laws like the Older Workers Benefits Protection Act. In group layoffs, employers must disclose the job titles and ages of individuals selected and not selected for termination.

When will the next Rif occur? And what departments?

@kt Agreed. Unfortunately, no-one WILL pay the price of doing this to others. There's a 'detachment' I believe that people at the SVP level and above must acquire to shelter their conscience from such actions. How else can you feel good about taking in millions of $$ for what YOU contribute while someone else loses their job -- possibly one that is potentially supporting an entire family -- while you collect more? Personally, I would struggle to sleep at night.

The problem with this advice, which is great from a technical standpoint, is that no one pays a price for doing this to their fellow man. Much like the financial meltdown of 2008 is that no one went to jail. This is just a “victim” mentality.

You're not going to hear about them. When it happens, it'll happen without warning. Humana intentionally avoids having to give out WARN notices by "constantly evaluating our staffing models" and handling RIFs in small batches. They have offshored and RIFd and used 'Early Retirements' now for years to avoid triggering oversight.

My advice -- don't sweat it. Just do your job to the best of your ability, and do your very best to pay down debt and SAVE $$. Use SecureSave, save your AIP, etc., to ensure you have 3-6 months of expenses put away for a rainy day. Then if it comes, you'll at least be able to breathe.
