It is more than a decade too late to go that path, but the big management consulting firms are selling the same stuff to everyone. Chevron just started their India shop and I heard it is going terribly wrong

@1g0 it sounds like the perfect time for cop to jump on board based on the company managements approach to trying new things

it’s way too late to go to india to start a hub

the affordable real estate is gone

the right people are gone

the government directly taxes projects at a high rate

turnover is high. sign-on bonuses are high. double digit raises every year are normalized and expected as is retention

also there is tons of cultural fraud. there just a bust on a fake degree printer that worked with 100,000 people. different people than were interviewed online show up at work day one. crazy crazy fraud. very hard region to go into blind and unaware.

good luck! when companies come crawling back to the states don’t be surprised that nobody wants to work for them. too many companies have shiny object syndrome which they impulsively act on without proper analysis. don’t let cop do it, it’s just too late.

if you’re in india, also good luck. ai will take your jobs first. if it doesn’t need to happen directly via collaboration withh people working on the assets or in the field in some other way, then an ai agent will soon( 2-4 years) do it. and nobody has assets in india.

ai enhanced jobs mean that the more expensive american worker is now more valuable. this is because the speed at which they can go through the business feedback loops and leveraging domain expertise not found in ai model training data are now the bottlenecks to delivery.

i want to hear no complaints from bangalore when reshoring kicks in. they haven’t ever allowed ours about offshoring and turnabout is fair play.

There are positives and negatives being a stateside technical contributor and having a support center situated in India.

Timezones and holidays are a serious challenge

Support quality is variable and keeping the best Indian talent is challenging as they demand promotions and raises on a yearly basis. Shell has learned this lesson and initial cost savings has been eroded. The past expectation that of 4 project Indian engineers for the cost of a 1 US based engineer is now closed to 2.1 to 1 given turnover and constant demands for raises.

COP will have to navigate very carefully that contribution from Indian support staff resulting in production uplift, cost savings, or profit can be and will be taxed in India. The administrative liability of this arrangement is significant with tax liabilities far exceeding cost savings. Chevron is learning this the hard way with ENGINE and some recent brilliant contributions resulting in both savings and profits.

COP is late to the show. The best talent is working for Shell and Chevron. So expect 2nd tier service

Not really a rumor. It’s happening already. Some IT got notice during CEP their jobs would be gone this year.
