Thread regarding HCSC (Health Care Service Corporation) layoffs

AI tools and copilot

Think before you use AI at hcsc. Dont help train an AI to take your job away. You dont need it! They are coming for any job Thats repetitive or low level at first. You think this huge move to remotely work is in your best interest? Think again. Use your head, ot AI.

@hq - Ha! You are believing consultant promises! The gullible leaders at HCSC have been hustled so many times with promises and this is no different.

@hq

Not sure which specific AI solution you have been exposed to but as someone who has worked with the vendors for the USG tool, it's a flaming pile of dog scheiße. And the vendor is completely clueless that everyone thinks it's horrendous, let alone understands what the problem is.

@hq I am doubtful that any of the bozo consultants that they hired have a great strategy either. Even if they did- it would be beneath big Mo and sl--eball Paul to actually accept a recommendation

@ey it’s not wishful thinking, there is at least one AI-focused consulting company in house working to implement AI solutions. You may not think this leadership team has a strategy but these consultants surely do.

@ey with the sheer amount of technical debt, same data in 5 places, fragility of systems, expensive coding, I think AI could help clean up the mess but not sure I would trust it with peoples lives in the balance. Reporting is always tenous and needs a SME to interpret what is real vs noise. Would you trust a highly educated Actuary to price or an AI system that has no real common sense to make assumptions? AI is just the excuse right now to fire and reset with lower paid employees.6-7 years when AI matures more, could be real threat. Make sure and level up your own training and certifications. I think the pendulum will swing tremendously into employee favor about 2 years from now when a lot of the Execs will realize their mistakes and the Macro environment switches to stability and hope instead of instability and fear. Everyone is on the sidelines right now trying to save their way to prosperity (never happens.) When people switch back to growth mode and invest - the hiring will begin. Unfortunately the Reputational damage that HCSC is doing now with trust us and don’t ask questions, the Multi-millionaire leaders arrogance and lack of empathy will haunt them. They will be left with tweedle dees and tweedle dums.

I have heard the Upper Management plans for 2026 to lean in on AI to cut costs throughout the company. It is mostly wishful thinking and a nice Management platitude that means little in reality.

@ej I try think our esteemed leaders want AI to be the magic bullet to save them from their ineptitude and poor financial decisions- but they also have no clue on how to manage AI. They just want to get rid of people and this is their excuse but I guarantee this will bite them on their bloated overpaid butts.

@OP just leave the vampires of HCSC if you are smart. If you need to be instructed to routinize a day by instructions, I feel for you. Find and organization that values critical thinking...you will much happier. I am proof of that since I left last year...lower pay, but so much happier

@OP AI cant compete with critical thinking skills of SMEs...execs want it to...well guess what all you MBAs and consults...back to folks that actually understand business. Silly...I've checked the output of these AI engines. They need help and will get there soon with known knowledge, but the market is always changing...those wishing for a silver bullet are mistaken.

I doubt they can do much with AI. It fails in most business contexts and the amount of institutional knowledge that they can't just have it su-k up because it's in people's heads is insane. The lack of documentation at this place will actually be useful for once.

Healthcare is one of those places you can't really afford to have a "hallucination".

They added more boxes to the provider match screen in work queue processing. We were told that it is to reduce errors. I think it’s more data points for automated matching.

AI could take our job in a heartbeat.
