Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Things just keep getting added to my plate

I'm doing so much work that isn't in my job description because nobody else will do it. These tasks are essential but completely invisible to management. They just accumulate and no one acknowledges them. I'm so, so tired of this being the expectation.

I work in business management. What they do when someone leaves, they either immediately get rid of the req or they hold on to it for a while. Then after let's say two months, they say "oh they are doing fine without that person " and they close out the req. Bottom line they are looking to reduce headcount and dont care about repercussions.

They are trying to make everyone quit so they don’t need to pay the severance of you getting laid off. 40% of my team has been eliminated since I started in August, and I continue to get the workload of both employees being gone…. This place is terrible to work at and I hope that everyone who wants to leave, can. BNY is going into the dirt!

This place absolutely doesnt care. They allow us to be short staffed constantly and hold up filling positions for months like its not a big deal. Then have the ba--s to make a comment when something doesnt get done or its missed. Just like the 30 yr old systems we are stuck using. Dont do manual work but we wont upgrade anything so you dont have too. We have a bunch of mo--ns in charge now

Go to a smaller bank/company. These types of tasks around inefficiency and miscommunication tend to not exist. When they do, the departments are generally better staffed. This is the norm at BNY and always has been.

Doing more with less.
It is only going to get worse as the pitiful charades of P-O-M, AI and RTO get quadrupled down upon.
Just remember, “built for opportunity” only means that India is the ultimate answer.
AI- means additional India.

Ultimately, this is why I left. I was doing so much "glue" work fixing things and doing things people dropped that I didn't get to focus on anything strategic or business-impacting. At a new bank and it's amazing how different it is elsewhere when teams are actually fully staffed.

I disagree with the statement "invisible to management." Your management knows, they don't care since you are handling it. They either do not want this work themselves or cannot trust others in your department to do these tasks.

I'm former Global Payments staff at BNY. I was employed in a department where management played d-mb with every issue and concern we faced. Management deliberately lopsided individuals with more responsibility and tasks than their peers. It was just business and usual there.
