Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Received a weird letter

Received a letter stating you are not required to relocate at this time but at some point in future your role will be filled in Dallas. Does this mean it is virtual forever or will I be let go at some point?

Anybody in this situation relocated to save your primary job, sell your home, sacrificing your spouse’s job and moved kids to Dallas?

Your time is limited. Choices are to start interviewing or bide your time collecting pay, bonus and benefits until you’re granted severance.

Yeah, I received the same message over 2 years ago during the first waves and somehow got the Virtual designation. Thought I somehow survived, but eventually got updated to FOW (meaning at some point in the future I'd get the next letter, move or get severance). Eventually that letter came and I declined to move. I got my 2 weeks notice around the same time that I would have had to report to Dallas if I had accepted. Good luck, OP. Use this time to prepare for what's best for yourself and don't waste time sacrificing for this d-mb company.

“ And don’t sit around and wait on severance either.“

Wholeheartedly disagree.

Highly encourage sitting around and waiting for severance, especially in the current job market.

Sure, you should be preparing for your exit. But do that while you’re still on the clock here.

I got this letter two years ago and still WFH. If you’re not fully vested or want more time, just call their bluff and wait it out. If you’re ready, pull the rip cord and decline the move when they prompt you so they pay you severance.

That was your notice your job will be moving to Dallas. Whether or not you are still in that role will depend on if you’re moving to Dallas or not. My advice, start looking for a new job now. No way I’d relocate for this company. And don’t sit around and wait on severance either. Take the best new job you can find.

A letter? Like in the mail with a stamp on it to your house?

This language is typically a strategic "soft notice" that your current remote or out-of-market status has an expiration date.

Start looking for realtors in Dallas.

The letter indicates your designation as dead weight.

@a4 I have seen it before. This means they are planning to move you position, from what I have seen, anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. It coming, just not right now.

Sounds made up. Haven’t heard of any letters with no timelines attached yet. I mean, why would it be sent ?

It means you will be asked to move to Dallas at some point in the future, but not right now.
