So many teams have been reduced to bare bones that we can barely manage, if at all. Layoffs have disproportionately targeted people in critical roles, those with real experience and skills. My team is missing several people whose shoes the rest of us can’t fill even if we wanted to. And to make it worse, the workload is the same or even bigger, but there are far fewer people to handle it. I’m basically falling off my feet, just like everyone else.

@wy I'm in finance, can't say where but you'd recognize the firm. There's chatter on the street about chopping up UNH and buying the juicy parts. Behind closed doors few are happy with SH. His combo as board chair is a joke along with most of the board. UHC is a tu-d and Optum is a mess. Gotta get it sorted to close a deal.
@OP Because we have clowns for leaders and the industry should essentially no longer exist as a for-profit (how many water utilities are considered growth/innovation??), it's all smoke and mirrors. Only lever they have to boost stock price is to shrink headcount faster than revenue and profit fall.
@OP No reason to hire with OT+OI consolidation, layoffs 10/30 and January. OA is dissolved into OI. SD not happy with OI despite reforms, it operates at 0.100X. Much culled, replace with OT projects, use OT people as "product" and hire new people to sell.
Odds are good your team is being eliminated. Lots of people 32+ are clueless and will be gobsmacked at reality when it happens.
Too many true believers that think UHC (and non clinical parts of Optum/upcoding tools) help improve healthcare and can't see the writing on the wall. Successful Optum employees know true evil and the cancer we are on American healthcare... and yet think of ways to sell our AI sludge.
Picture three units: Optum AI (fka OT, OI, OA, OF), OH and ORX. Package nicely and each can be spun off to PE and/or OH is merged with UHC as a massive national PayVider. That's the secret sauce, kids.
They don't care about any of us. god i hope i can find something else soon.
And the corporations does not care. You know why because there model is to work you to death and than hire new people to replace you. So many teams are low, but yet everyone is still meeting metrics and some exceeding. So why would they hire new people. Seems what they are doing is working. More work, less employees , same productivity , less cost.
My team was once on this situation. Then the openings were filled with offshore hires. This did not help and actually generated more work.
Sorry you’re dealing with this. Your best option at this point will likely be looking for a new job.
