Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Burnt out

Unlike most folks here, I liked working at Chevron. Good people, good pay, interesting work… I’m considered a high performer…but I’m so burnt out I don’t know what to do. I’ve been working basically 2 jobs for the last 3 years. I’ve reached the point where I dread coming in, looking at emails, getting IMs. My bosses have agreed it’s unsustainable, but I’ve cycled through 3 bosses in this period, with no continuity to make changes.

And, it’s clear post reorg this will all get worse. Less competent bosses with less time.

The only solutions I see are quitting or a leave of absence. Taking vacation is pointless, as I end up working 20-40% of the time anyway.

They count on people like you. I was one my first several years. I worked downtown and pulled nearly every Saturday for the first year or more. Many promises were made.

The raises were there, but the career trajectory never materialized and I eventually hit a ceiling, but the expectations continued. I missed a lot of family activities before coming to my senses. They get 9/80 and no apologies now.

Got laid off in June after 20 yrs. I’m proud that I NEVER worked my 9/80 and NEVER worked more than 40 hours a week.

I came out ahead.

I know many similar folks who got laid off with me who worked their 9/80s and 60-80 hour weeks.

They didn’t come out ahead.

The younger folks should follow my example.

Dont bail Chevron leadership out. Stop working on vacation and take the sick time you need for your mental health. Our "leaders" dont care about us so stop working like you are. Let things be undone. They only understand metrics so let them fail and get fired!
